Readable, good value.

I use this to measure the temperature in my attic, and when it gets too hot, turn on the attic fan to cool it down. This helps keep the house cooler and the roof last longer. I was able to mount this on a wall upstairs near a closet, and then drilling a few holes, and what not, to fish the probe up into the attic above the insulation. I can read the display from the bottom of the stairs if the light is on in the hallway. The wall mount is not exactly flush, especially if you try to hide the drill hole for the probe since the wire comes out the side and needs to snake behind.

The directions say you can display the clock in 24-hour time format, but they do not say how, and with only two buttons on the back, I must be doing something wrong, as I cannot get the display to change.
Great while it lasted.

Great while it lasted, which was about one day. I'd been having trouble getting the typical wireless thermometers to work consistently so thought I'd try an "old fashioned" wired type. This meant the extra labor of getting the wire through the wall but I decided it would be worth it to have a reliable outdoor thermometer with the nice temperature history feature available with the electronic models. I got it all setup and it was working great with a nice big, high-contrast display easily readable from across the room. However, after using it for awhile I decided to check the temperature history and went to pick it up to press the history button. When I did this a static electricity spark jumped from my hand to the device, typical of dry indoor air in the Northland in the winter (I live in Minnesota and this IS the winter). The device display immediately scrambled and now shows only a bizarre combination symbols impossible to read. No amount of resetting or removing the batteries seems to have helped. I notice the device still seems to be working and changes in temperature do cause something to happen on the display, but it is nothing I can interpret. Maybe this is the reason so many people have posted negative reviews about premature failures. And word to those whose device is still working: be careful to ground yourself before touching it, maybe you can keep yours working for years to come! In any case, how can a modern electronic device not have robust static electricity protection? Very sad.
This Model is a 'DUD' All 8 Failed within a Year
R H FDecember 11, 2017
Bought 8 of these in the last year for use in various applications and locations. All have failed within 6-months to a year. Used these Indoor/Outdoor Thermometers in both inside and outside locations; and cool and hot locations =result= All Failed. I have bought and used other Taylor Thermometers with good results and long service; but this model is a clearly a 'dud'.
I thought it was great at first
MikeOctober 8, 2017
I thought it was great at first. Easy to read and accurate. Then the display started showing some scrambled digits and then disappeared completely. Checked the battery and it had 2.9 volts. It went out three day's after I could return it (must have a timer in it) so I'm out $8.35. Not going to break the bank but don't bother buying this unit, its Junk. I always thought Taylor products were high quality but whose to say this is the same company that's been around for decades.
Extremely Accurate Well-Designed Thermometer for the Price
Gary KOctober 5, 2017
Only had it three days, so not sure about reliability, but it definitely worked perfectly right out of the box. This is an extremely well designed thermometer for the price. 1-1/2" temp display (which can be indoor or outdoor temp, your choice) is clearly readable from anywhere in an average sized room. Min and max temperatures displayed at the bottom are a nice touch and they automatically reset at midnight, so each evening you can see the high and low for the day.

Also, for a unit costing less than $10, I am amazed by its accuracy. I have a lab grade high accuracy thermometer and this simple unit reads within 0.2 deg F (that's two tenths of a degree) of it. At least in the 60-80 deg F range. Guess I could have gotten the one unit in a hundred that is accurate, but I am very pleased so far. A number of reviews of this product said they had early failures. I will update if mine fails anytime soon, but so far I give this unit five stars and a strong "buy" recommendation.

May 2018 update-- 7 months of use and no problems. Accuracy is still spot on.
