I was looking for a basic amplifier and receiver system. The original packaging from the Supplier was very good, but it was placed inside of a larger Amazon outer packaging that was received with only minimal stuffing for buffering the Supplier box inside against bumps. Luckily there was no visible damage and I connected this system to 3 pairs of Pyle 8 inch ceiling speakers in 2 separate zones. Considering the relatively low price, it gave me exactly what I needed - good sound from the FM receiver and the ability to play my TV and other music through the speakers. The remote for the receiver is well laid out and spacious and very easy to use. The display on the front of the receiver is large and clear for most of the information that you need to see, except that I find switching between zones is not always clearly displayed (it is a 3-way toggle). Connectivity to my WIFI was excellent even from about 20 feet away (in a straight line with no walls between) and the front USB port is a feature I was also looking for. However you have to make sure all the music that you want to play is in one folder on the USB stick. I am very pleased with the features and performance, but it has been only 1 month - will update if this changes..

2 things we've found that we don't care for with this receiver, #1) Direct On/Off - just put a loudness button on it already so we don't have to surf thru the menu to crank up the volume! It also takes the quality of sound out by balancing the bass and treble to center which eliminates a lot of the tone quality. And that leads me into this, I want to be able to adjust the bass and treble myself, give me a knob any day over the goofy set up for the "equalizer" that's in the menu. #2) FM only has a coax-in port, we have wires from our aerial and I'm going to have to get an end and crimper to install it so I can listen to FM. AM is the only receivable port for wires why??? Other than that, we really have enjoyed the receiver. The height of the unit was a little surprising, it's a good 2" taller than our other Onkyo it replaced. We have both channels hooked up and you can cycle thru on the remote and choose if you want A, B or both A & B sets on. Allows you to choose a punchier sound when needed by using all the speakers. Even with these minor complaints, it's still worth 5 stars. It's a nice, powerful, old-school receiver that is also compatible with our new Q6 Samsung tv because of the optical-in on the back of the receiver. It doesn't have an HDMI-ARC-in, only HDMI-ARC-out.
Kick Ass System 💯💕ðŸºðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ðŸ†’

Wow what a network stereo receiver. I haven't had a real stereo receiver since 2008 since my other was like 18 years old and didn't work anymore. It has many cool features in it as a optional resource to perhaps use someday with it. The internet services that can be used with this component also. I love the Bluetooth capabilities. In todays world this is very essential to have. Its all easy to understand and comprehensive. Their manual is really well layed out and gives good details too. However, the unit lacks a "Loudness" mode. I think its still overall a great network stereo receiver and well worth it., no doubt about it. So stunning too. Later as a bonus I found out the following: The bass for Sub is stronger when used in combination too. Two speakers (L - R) and a Sub speaker makes the bass knob come more alive than before! ðŸ‘😎ðŸ‘🎶💖✔
Good reciever. Would by again.

After spending hours looking at different receivers I settled for this one.
I needed turntable input.
I needed sub woofer out.
I needed at least 1 optical input.
I love the network option, listing to tune in radio and it sound really good, better than I expected.
I wish I knew about the app instead of pulling my hair out using the remote to input all the user names and passwords.
I hooked up to a pair ok Klipsch speakers and I love the sound.
I tried using the wifi and ethernet hookups and got both to work, although it still fails the network check it works fine.
I tried calling tech support about it and the guy was clueless in why it fails the network check.
So over all I am happy with it, it sounds great and I love the standby mode. Almost instant on. No waiting.
The user manual is a little sparse, it could go into detail a little bit more.
So whats missing?
There is no way I can adjust the sub out. That would be nice, not a deal killer.
I guess for the money it's a good deal.

Only two downsides to this piece of kit--one major, one minor. The major concern is that the bluetooth is so bad it's effectively non-functional and Onkyo should be embarrassed slapping on the bluetooth logo when that componentry (per repeated reviews) simply does not work. If you're buying this solely to rely on the bluetooth for connectivity (versus wifi)--DO NOT BUY IT! Same room five feet away, different room thirty feet away, doesn't matter. The bluetooth link in our unit has never lasted longer than 15 minutes, requiring a full reboot to reconnect. Given that it takes a full minute or two to reboot, it's not any way to use the device.
The other downside is very, very minor, and that's that the android app must be onscreen for continued use. If you keep it open then switch to another app, the Onkyo app somehow loses its connection to the machine. No problemo, though. Just restart the app and it works fine. If that's a problem for you, then you probably have too few things in life to worry about. ;)
All that said, this device otherwise is AWESOME! In our smallish DC townhouse we have a whole-house audio system (a clunky-but-effective setup from Russound that nevertheless works quite well). It drives various sets of speakers that range from abysmally mediocre Yamahas to standard-setting Martin-Logans. We have it in six zones, with a wall-mounted controller and remote in each. We added the Onkyo on top of two CD players and an old analog tuner, but we really all fight for the Onkyo now because its internet connection is pretty flawless (aided by the fact that we directly plugged it into the router via cat5e.)
I'd never heard of TuneIn before we bought the Onkyo and now I can't imagine not having it. The folks at Onkyo really did their homework because TuneIn is an astonishing work of connectivity in that it's the perfect internet radio tuner. In addition to the preset stations, and there are many, you can do a search and likely find pretty much anything you're looking for. There are other services pre-programmed into the app (e.g., Slacker, Deezer) but they're not as versatile.
However, as if Tune-In wasn't enough, we've reacquainted ourselves with Pandora, and I added our subscription feeds from Sirius and Digitally Imported as well (for the latter, I had to manually enter the channel URLs into the "preset" slots, which I could only do after my Digitally Imported subscription kicked in.) All of it works remarkably well and we now suffer from an abundance of music options, from room to room, throughout the entire house.
This receiver was worth every penny just for its internet connectivity alone, and I imagine that's in part because internet radio is now such a deep, massive phenomenon. But also props to Onkyo because this machine feeds into that phenomenon very, very well.
