Awesome shoes. They run very small.

Best shoes I have ever climbed with. Highly recommend. Super comfy even with tight fit. Note, the shoes are very small. Don't by smaller than you normally wear on the street, you might even need to upsize. See picture for what I mean Sharman same size as street shoe.
Comfortable downturned shoe

Haven't worn evolv before but I love these. I mostly do sport climbing but have found myself at my gym's moonboard more and more and wanted something comfortable yet slightly aggressive and these fit the bill! Seriously, they're so comfortable and are pretty soft which is great for gym climbing.
I tried street, half size down, and full size down -- Half size down seemed to be perfect for comfort so I didn't have to constantly take them off. I've been wearing mine for 4 months and the fit is the same as when I got them, so very minimal stretching. This also means they won't really need a break in period which was nice coming from some other shoes that torture your feet for tons of sessions.

I'll deff be using these as a comfy gym staple
Love them

They hook great toe and heel, sticky, I feel like a mountain goat going up the wall.

They do run small, order 2 full sizes up from your shoe size
Fit Wider than Previous Shamans (Shakra for narrow feet with limited sizing in May 2017)
Rhyno✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 30, 2023
I owned two pairs of the previous Shaman and loved the fit, comfort and performance for my style of climbing (comfort is number one for me). I wear a street shoe size 44 (10.5). In the Previous Shaman I wore an 11 which fit perfect. I began with that same size for the new Shaman and couldn't fit my foot into the shoe without it feeling like I was engaging in some kind of footbinding in ancient China. I returned the 11 and ordered an 11.5 expecting that to be a perfect fit (The new shoe is recommended to downsize a half size from the previous Shaman). I tried it on and it was comfortable, but just a bit too short for comfort. The toe box was pushing too hard against my toe knuckles and I could feel the seam too easily making it just too uncomfortable fro more than 5 minutes. I returned those and got a 12. The length of the 12 fit spot on, but alas, the right shoes toe liner was defective and I had to return those as well (definitely check with your hand when you buy). The wrinkles in the liner were so bad, it felt like a some twigs pressing against me toes. The left shoe was just fine. BTW, I do not give negative stars for not getting the right fit on first order, this is normal and not the manufacturer's fault.
The downside to the 12s were that the length was spot on finally, but at the cost of the width/fit being a bit too big. So I have a looser, baggier feeling shoe in the toe and heel and I have to crank the straps and tongue almost all the way. This is because the Shamans are designed for wider feet... So obviously my feet are a bit narrower than designed for with this shoe. I was so excited for these since the last two pairs somehow worked perfect for me. I decided to go with the 12s, but am not as excited that they just don't accommodate my foot like before. So close to being perfect, but just have me stuck between 11.5 and 12. Due to the knuckle box design, it pushes directly against your toe knuckles in an unforgiving manner if you don't have the right foot. if you have wide feet, these are PERFECT. I wish they would make a wide and standard version of these in the future. I love them.
Pros:
- Amazing stability and comfort if you have wide feet
- Better, thinner straps
- Midsole flex is nice
- Tighter fitting heel cup
- Toes have better edge control over previous model
- Toe hooking and heel hooking control is improved over previous model
- Color and finish
- Soft liner
Cons:
- Seam directly on big toe can be uncomfortable or unbearable if your feet are not wide
- Doesn't accommodate thinner feet like previous Shamans

UPDATE: It looks like the Shakra model is designed with a lower volume upper AND has the love bump/knuckle box of the Shamans and is designed as unisex narrow feet & women. Largest size will be a women's 12.5 and will be released May 2017
Size up one full size from street and deal with the breaking for a good week or so

I have to agree in ordering a full size up. They stretch very little, I literally could not get 1/2 size up on my foot at all. But, the key is getting the correct length of shoe. The synthetic upper isn't going to stretch, nor is the overall length, but the shoe will soften, which is what the break in is accomplishing in the case of these. You have to get the length correct and make sure the shape fits the contour of your toes.

To address some recommendations I commonly see, these are not beginner shoes. I've heard that suggested a few times, and it's simply ridiculous. These are aggressively cambered which is going to be awful for new climbers. Secondly, they have an extremely thick sole which is not good for beginners who need to work on footwork. As a result, they are not a sensitive shoe but they can edge as good as most anything I've ever tried. They are nothing short of confidence inspiring on tiny edges and not just on steep terrain, they're incredible for micro edges on slabs and vertical routes. That stiffness with rubber on the top and bottom makes them incredibly good at heel and toe hooking as well. The primary sacrifice IMO is in smearing where a softer shoe is generally greatly appreciated. But, they're still usable in all departments so don't rule them out, they're just not going to act like slippers on smeary stuff. I haven't tried, but I could see these being good for thin cracks, or mixed crack and face routes, where the velcro isn't going to be a huge issue.

Break in, they hurt at first, a lot. The toe box is fairly low volume so expect pressure from all sides. This is something that beginners and intermediate level climbers will likely not have experienced unless they've jumped into aggressive or under-sized shoes before. I have a medium-wide and fairly flat foot and the first few times I could only stand to wear these for 10 - 20 minutes and that was pushing it. Out of the box I almost returned them because of the top pressure. After about 3 sessions I could do a full hour as long as my nails are properly trimmed and I don't do something stupid like kick the wall. As the shoe softens, one can expect to be able to handle much longer sessions assuming the toe box is the correct shape of the climbers foot. In my case, like most evolv shoes, the front of the shoe has almost the perfect curve for my toes.

The closure is excellent but actually overkill IMO. I could climb in these without any velcro, surely a single strap would be sufficient for me. I'm not coming out of them period.

As already stated, they are phenomenal for toe and heel hooking. However, the heel is fairly low volume compared to shoes like Anasazi VCS. If you have a very deep heel, these may not feel right, I could see these being too low volume for some feet. But if they fit, they can hook like no other. This was one of the primary reasons I ordered these and I'm not disappointed, just an incredible amount of power with these.

So, overall, they're a great aggressive shoe if they are sized correctly and if they fit your foot. They're one of the only aggressive shoes that fit my flat-ish feet well, There's some 5.10's and Boreal that I like, but Sportivas are almost all horrible for me. I can't comment yet on durability, it seems like a mixed bag of they'll last forever and I blew through them in 2 months. If you have careful and deliberate footwork, I can't see these being short lived. There's just too much rubber to go through. They occasionally go on sale, so watch for that, but if they fit your foot, they should be a great aggressive shoe for sport, bouldering, and the gym.
