Pretty cool first drinking horn with base. I was a little disappointed in the colors...was hoping it would be more exotic, but it was close enough to the image that I really can't complain. Just a warning though - you will definitely want to pour some melted bees wax in there before you take your first drink, because the smell on the inside is pretty stout, and I even grew up on a farm. It's a simple enough process, just heat up some bees wax and turn the horn as you pour it in to ensure even distribution. Once done, the smell is gone and you can start enjoying your favorite mead!

My first review read as follows: The horn was poorly finished, chipped and rough on the top half, and extremely thin at the rim. The metal band around the rim looked like something that had been put together by a preteen for a middle school art project. Not at all impressed with the product. The stand was thick, sturdy, and level, which is the only reason I'm giving the product 2 stars.

After writing the review, I was contacted by a representative of AleHorn, who informed me that the horn I had received was not an adequate example of their product, and he sent me another horn in an attempt to remedy the problem. Though I am impressed with the dedication to customer service, I am still not fully satisfied or impressed with the horn. My real problem with this second horn lies with the brass trim. I don't think it is even worth having on there, because it doesn't fully wrap the rim, and there is glue all over the exposed horn rim. If they are going to add a bit of trim to class something up, I think they should pay attention to detail and make it worth it. Perhaps, because I'm a professional artist, I'm hypercritical, but I can't imagine handcrafting something, and allowing it to walk out my door with glue all over the rim that someone is going to put his or her lips to. That being said, the replacement horn itself is MUCH better than the first one. I still can't bring myself to give it more than 3 stars though, because I don't want to drink out of it due to the glue all over the rim. If all you're looking to do is put it on a shelf, it's decent enough. Sorry, AleHorn, but a little bit more attention to detail would go a long way.

The ale horn is amazingly crafted and polished, the rim adds a nice detail. It is a beautiful piece. However, the included stand is lovely and functions well as a holder however it does not display the True Glory of the ale horn and if not used consistently will allow dust to collect.
This piece is functional as a alehorn and his beautiful piece of conversational art in your home. However, if you plan on using the horn outside of your home I really suggest you buy a holster as well.

After several weeks of searching various sites for a drinking horn, I am SO pleased that I found this one. I ordered two of the polished, 12" horns with a stand included. The polish simply brings out the uniqueness of each horn without looking cheap or fake. One is just slightly larger than the other (his and hers) and both easily hold 12 oz of mead or ale. I hope the attached photo does them justice.

The first thing I did was smell them. One had no smell at all, while the other had a slight smell. Having read other reviews, I had prepared myself for something truly nauseating. Not even close to the case. I sprinkled baking soda in each one, placed them in a bag overnight, then hand washed them with warm, soapy water. I then filled them with cool water and let them sit in the stands for several hours. No leaks. The stands are sturdy and the horns did not tip or fall over.

Finally, it was time to actually drink from our horns! They'll be going with my husband and I to every beer or wine festival we attend. I love them and will purchase them again as gifts. Thank you, AleHorn, for a beautiful product (and bonus sticker!).

I have a Viking in the making in my son in law. Our theme this year for his Christmas was anything Viking or close to it, so when I saw this amazing alehorn, I knew I had found the mother lode of gift-dom for him. Imagine a grown man with tears in his eye as he handled this alehorn with an awed look upon his face. The matching holder was a hit as well so that he could set his drink down and not tip it over. I cannot thank you enough for your amazing product that allowed his inner Viking to emerge yet again. A beautiful handcrafted item that pictures don't do justice to. You have to see it in person to grasp the beauty of it.
