I've been shredding fan belts in my big block Camaro every time I stomp on it. I had tried different types of belts with no success.
Rather than more trial and error and playing roadside pit stop replacing belts, I decided to do a conversion to a more modern serpentine belt system.
After doing a bit of online research, I found the CVF serpentine conversion kit for a 454 with a LWP, no A/C, and power steering. The kit had great reviews, and since it was also offered through Amazon, I decided to go for it. The total price was also great. The conversion kit along with two Gates 8-rib belts was right at $600. Compared to other kits, that's amazing.
In true Amazon fashion, everything was delivered in a couple days. The components are individually wrapped in separate boxes. The instructions however, are awful. However, installation is very intuitive and I was able to get everything done in one evening.
Some tips -
1. Chase the threads in your block. The fasteners tighten pretty much to exact tolerances, so any debris in the existing threads can cause problems - espcially with the power steering fasteners.
2. Closely inspect each part. One of the pulleys appeared to have a missing threaded hole, but it was simply a loose metal shaving that was in the hole. I used a toothpick to poke it through.
3. Purchase the belts with the kit. They're not easy to find otherwise (I plan to buy a backup set).
After installation, I took my car for a hard test drive, spinning wheels at every launch, chirping through hard shifts - and then did three serious burnouts at 6,000 RPMs each. The belts stayed put, no leaks, temp maxed at around 195 degrees.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS KIT.

I agree with ^^GreenAdam^^^ my kit was also packaged very well and the brackets are of great quality. I thought it was just my kit but after reading his review I got the same deal. Shorted on water pump bolts and I got the wrong balancer bolts too. I didn't have any problem with my power steering mounting that I know of. Most of the mounts are really the same style brackets some just look better then others.

I can't tell you how awesome they are because the belts for this kit are almost impossible to find! Good old Amazon was the only place I could find them.

Do your self a favor, if your ordering this kit just order the belts too. You will save some time trying to shop around for them later.

First of all, let me say that the actual bracketry in this kit has outstanding fit and finish. Each of the aluminum parts is individually wrapped in foam like it was jewelry. I couldn't be happier with the actual parts - very nicely done.

A few things that prevented this from getting a solid 5 stars:
1) Some of the hardware was missing. I should have received 4 fine threaded 5/16" bolts for holding the water pump pulley, but they were missing entirely.
2) Some of the hardware was wrong. I should have received 4 coarse threaded 3/8" bolts for the harmonic balancer pulley, but they gave me fine threaded bolts that wouldn't work.
3) Some of the design is just wrong. The bolts that hold the power steering pump brackets are too long and bottom out. The instructions say that you may have to use a tap and make the threads longer in this area, but these are blind holes in bosses on the block - drilling them deeper would make them pop out the other side! Had to manually grind the bolts down about 1/8" to keep them from bottoming.
4) Not enough information is given. The info told me exactly what kind of power steering pump this would work with, but there was no information on the alternator at all. I assumed it would work with all standard Chevy alternators. WRONG. Had to go buy a different alternator at the last minute. Frustrating! Just tell me which alternators will work!!
