I decided to try these baked apples when the price of freeze dried went over $30 for 12 oz. I am very glad that I did!

These apples have a great taste, much richer than their freeze dried counterparts. They are decidedly brown when you open the can, but that is 100% normal. The color can be attributed to caramelized sugar from the apples; there is no added sugar.

These work well in just about anything you would use fresh apples for. You can rehydrate them by putting them in water, or you can use them dried and just increase the liquid in whatever you're making. I love these broken up into oatmeal in the mornings.

In general, the texture is quite crispy. Every so often, though, you will run into thicker slices that have a chewy texture as they have not totally dried. This isn't a problem, unless you are trying to crush them up. The thick ones don't break!

The one thing that could be better is the preparation of the fruit before baking: I frequently find seeds and their cases still in the fruit's flesh. Those aren't appetizing when dry or reconstituted. I like that the fruit is not peeled before baking. Peels add an interesting texture and flavor.

I am now a convert; I will choose these baked apples over freeze dried every time!

I really enjoy these apple chips. I was looking for the same type of apple chips that panera has in thier salad. These were good, but just slightly thicker and not as crispy. Very good alternative though with cleaner ingredients. I would buy them again
