Great little station.

I was in the middle of a quad copter build, and the iron I had just wasn't hot enough. So, I bought a 40w Weller non-controllable with a thick tip. That thing got the job done, but the tip literally dissolved after a couple uses, and I was left with a nub.
So, I decided to invest in to a variable setting iron station. I am glad I did! This station, is great. Heats up super fast, the tip is small for delicate soldering. Being able to have my tip cleaner, sponge, and solder right there is very handy. The digital display, is nice, and geives you an idea of what temp you are at. For my project, I am soldering around 700 degrees.
I have not changed the tip yet, but I did take it off as I was curious about it. It's a simple twist of the tip.

Great iron if you put in a big fat heavy tip

I do a lot of difficult soldering attaching high-current lug nuts to PCBs with heavy copper. The lug and the PCB planes act like heatsinks, drawing away the heat. This iron's PID control plus a big heavy fat oversize Ayoue tip are the only thing that can handle it.
My only gripe is that once the iron heats up it displays only the GOAL temperature, not the ACTUAL temperature, until you turn it off again. So if you're in the middle of soldering and want to know if the iron is having trouble keeping up the only way to check the temperature is to flick the on/off switch. Very annoying, X-Tronic you should know better.

What an excellent little station! I've only been using it for a few months, now, so I cannot yet speak to its longevity. However, its performance has been outstanding. the unit reaches temperature rather quickly, and remains stable. Its idle time-out feature has kicked in a couple of times, as well, when I've walked away for too long. This unit is very hard to beat, for the price.

This is a great soldering iron. Gets hot in seconds, has adjustable tip temperature, tips are easily changed to fit project needs, and the stand is perfect for keeping the hot iron away from things you don't want burnt by the hot soldering iron. I would recommend this iron to anyone that needs a versatile soldering iron that can be used on delicate components or any other soldering project.
Exceeds my expectations

This thing heats fast. I would say from cold to full temperature in under 10 seconds. You dial your desired temperature (350F works well for leaded solder) and after a couple of seconds the display reverts to actual tip temperature that climbs as it heats up. The iron drops to 200 degrees when it is holstered for longer than 10 minutes in the stand then reheats when you pick it up again. It does not fully turn off, just drops to 200F. The tip was completely round which is not my favorite choice. I like 2 mm flattened tips which you can usually get 10 of for under $10 on Amazon (Solder Screwdriver Iron Tip Soldering Station Tool for 900M/936/907/933/376/913 - 900M-T-2.4D). Very happy with it.
