For me, 7" x 4.75" was a good size! Other reviewers were disappointed when they received theirs citing it was "flimsy" or "cheap" feeling -- this is NOT hardcover by any means. I would say that this notebook has the same feeling as a (larger) American passport, so please keep that in mind when ordering! I still love it, since it still maintains its rigidity. The pages are thick enough that writing with a regular ballpoint won't make indents on the back of the page, and gel ink won't bleed through. The color of the pages is not white -- I'd say its comparable with a parchment color (essentially light yellow? "Parchment" sounds cooler though!)
The only thing that would make this notebook better:
MAKING IT A HARDCOVER CAPTAIN'S LOG JOURNAL!!!! I don't know a single fan of Star Trek that would NOT want it. :D

I ordered this item as a gift for my "Trecky" hubby for fathers day. It's GREAT and I know he will love it.
However, the USPS delivery stated that the item was placed in my mailbox.I thought it was stolen because it was NOT in my mailbox. I had ordered a coffee maker for my son the same day to send to him in Afghanistan and guess what?!? It was in the same box the coffee machine was packed in - grrr!!
