I`ve only used it one time to check head flatness. seems like a good straight edge. It is aluminum so I will keep it in the tube it came in. The price was a pretty good deal.
Nice Flat Edge

Very nice straight edge, easy to grip with decent thickness. Have used it to check an engine with the block still under the hood. 18" size very convenient for this application. Did not have to debur the ends as some reviewers have indicated. Wish it had a protective case like my torque wrenches do, but I'm very pleased with its quality.
Accurate

Very quick and easy way to test the flat surface for a small engine block. This is the smallest size I would use on a small 4 cylinder engine.
I just rebuilt a QR25DE 2.5L Nissan Altima engine and I needed to check the deck surface. Luckily it was within spec so I did not need to bring the block to the machine shop.

Excellent price for pretty good quality tool

I liked that it came in it's own retail box/packaging and not just rattling around loose in the shipping box. The tool is straight as advertised. There are some machining marks on the business side of the tool. But this is the cheaper alternative to the high-priced straight edges, so I didn't pay enough to allow me to make the machining marks an issue.
Guitars, Luthier, and Fret Leveling

I've be using the 18" straight edge to measure bridge heights, center lines, etc... and the 12" as a fret leveler. Double stick tape some fine grit sand paper and works like a charm. I also made a notched acrylic attachment for the 12" to measure neck flatness with frets on. Bought both of them for half the price of one Stewmac straight edge and they have a wider flat area and are more sturdy imo.
