I used to ride my skateboard very often but forgot it when I went to college. Seeing that I could get around easier with a skateboard or longboard I bought one. The trucks definitely need to be tightened before use. I was riding and ended up breaking my foot from the immense speed I was able to go. Honestly for anyone who is used to riding longboards would find this perfect but not great for beginners. Side not: do not think you can go fast on a longboard just because you have used a skateboard in the past. Not worth it.
Amazing Quality

The most striking thing about the Magneto Bamboo Dancer, once you open the box and realize the sheer length of it, is how gorgeous this longboard looks. From the bamboo pattern to the clear grip tape and "M" logo on top to the black reversible Magneto logo on the underside to the black trucks and wheels, this board looks absolutely beautiful. I was reluctant to take it out into the street for fear of nicking and scraping away at the glossy finish.

As a former shortboard skater, the Bamboo Dancer presented a couple new challenges. First, it's a lot heavier and longer than a regular skateboard and thus transporting it requires a bit more finesse lest you scrape away at your doorways, walls, or car paint. Second, the size and weight forced me to relearn how to do the most basic skateboard skills such as turning, pivoting, and even pushing. The trucks and wheelbase are much wider and longer which allows for more stability, while the soft wheels provide a smoother, quieter ride while sacrificing some speed. I used to ride my shortboard with tight tight tight trucks, and switching to a dancer board, which requires loose trucks for maximum fun, took a little getting used to. Thankfully, Magneto was awesome enough to provide a free skate tool to adjust the kingpin and tighten/loosen your trucks as desired.

It's been 4 months since I received this longboard and as I've gotten more competent at riding and performing tricks, I've also beaten up the board substantially. The symmetrical nose and tail are appropriately scraped up, yet they still retain their pop and have no cracks or delamination. However, the sides of the board that sit right below the wheel wells have chipped off some leaving exposed and splintered wood on the topside of the board. I'm sure my countless attempts at 180 no-complys and ghost ride kickflips contributed to this damage, but I'm surprised that instead of just wearing away or denting the wood I'm instead getting large splinters that are peeling off. Another strange thing is the wheels seem to occasionally become crooked. It's hard to describe, but imagine you give the wheel a nice spin and instead of just rotating around the axel, it wobbles as it spins. I don't know if it's due to the wheels being too soft so the bearings loosen and shift in place, but I can get it to go away by pushing the wheels into the trucks to straighten them. It's a manageable problem, but I've never seen it before on other skateboards. I have some Orangutang wheels in the mail.

Overall I love the Bamboo Dancer. As my first longboard I knew there would a learning curve and I didn't want to spend too much on a learning board, but after riding this thing for 4 months I really can't imagine how much better a much more expensive Loaded board would be. I know there's a world of fancy longboards out there, but of all the ones I've seen the Magneto is hands down, to my eyes, the best looking one by far. Minus 1-star for the wood splintering on the sides and the weird issue with the wheels. Otherwise, this board is amazing in every way.
Beautiful board, can't wait to build my skills

I'm old. I hadn't been on a skateboard for over 30 years. But I became fascinated with the notion of using a longboard for exercise and commuting casually after seeing some videos. I brushed the thoughts aside for years, but this winter the dream of gliding along on a longboard on a sunny day finally pushed me into doing some web searching to find out if this dream was doable. It certainly is! After researching, I chose my Magneto 42" x 9" pintail to see if I could actually do the fantasy riding that sitting inside on cold winter days that had become somewhat obsessive for me. I placed my order for the board and elbow, knee, and wrist guards and hoped for the best.

The board and guards arrived on a remarkably warm late winter day. It was ready to go straight out of the carton. I guarded myself up and stepped out to the back of my building's parking lot and put the dream in motion. After a few moments standing on a flat portion of the lot and doing some leaning back and fro to get the distant muscle memories going, I started pushing myself forward towards a gentle downward slope. I initially stepped off quickly, but quickly gained confidence in the stable glide and the adrenaline rush of riding. I coasted to a stop and awkwardly pushed myself back to the top of the slope.

It only took about 20 minutes to get the feel of riding once again. Turning and getting pointed in the right direction while pushing is going to take practice, and I haven't had to pick myself up after a crash, so I can't review the guards just yet (thankfully). But it's going to be fun getting to know this board. It's a beauty to behold and handles small obstacles like minor pavement cracks, twigs and pebbles with little difficulty. Without the aid of a kicktail and my own tentativeness, I still need to work on my skills to push off and make quicker course corrections as I ride. But I'm ready for longer rides and I have no doubt this is the right board for me. And I think it will be the right board for you as well.
