Nice unit. I mostly need to leave in full to get any job done but I am not doing delicate work. The solder worked fine (note there is not much of it so buy some). Even the desoldering device works. So a great little unit. My only nit would be that I keep changing the heat level while working without realizing it. I have to think about holding the right way.

This kit is more than adequate for a beginner or light hobbyist. The tool heats quickly and holds solder well. The small tools are great for picking at stuff. The stand is a little cheap but it works just fine. I might suggest one of those magnifying glass stands with the alligator clips to assist you.
My only complaint is that it does not have any flux. You should go get some ROSIN (not acid) flux (or a flux pen) to use with this kit.

Defidently on the cheapy budget side, lower quality stuff but if you only need it for the random odd job here and there like fixing your kids toy, a remote or some other simple random solder job this is great. If you are plan on doing any real sodering jobs or going to be a hobbyist working with electronics etc. you might want to get a quality set, In my opinion, this set is just for quick simple fixes like something you would keep in a kitchen drawer with the plastic flashlight and little hammer. Not something I would have as a main workbench tool. But it does work, I have got my money back on it already.

There's a ton of value packed in here. The case keeps things nice and organized. Just be careful of a few of the tools - they are very sharp and will easily poke through the case if you aren't careful. One of my tips is starting to look burnt but they give you a bunch of replacement tips.
I bought this and in one week fixed (by resoldering) $50 pair of headphones, a MacBook MagSafe2 charger ($80), and a custom Arduino-based heart rate sensor (someone did a poor job soldering the wires to the sensor (about the size of a dime). If it never worked again it would have been money well spent. Of course, it's working just fine.

Does exactly what I need it to do for desoldering and soldering Cherry MX RGB switches. Also got a Hakko to pair with it later ($$$). For the price this is a great kit for newbies. I recommend it, as I'm new to this too. I highly recommend this kit to anyone new to soldering. It's VERY excellent value for what you get. Eventually you will want to step up to a Hakko iron and Hakko desoldering iron, but if you can't afford that, this will get you going.
The vacuum desoldering pump works well, but should only be used in an emergency. Having to use the soldering iron to melt solder to desolder can cause damage to PCBs if you aren't careful. Always consider a desoldering iron like the Hakko and Aoyue units.
