Only 1/3 of pen body is aluminum! Pen body has three parts. The glass breaker on top is very sharp steel sent in polymer. Under that is the only metal part of the pen body(aluminum) & pocket clip (steel). The aluminum is extremely grippy. The bottom third (the part you hold to write) is all polymer. Immediately upon un-boxing I felt ripped-off. Hard plastic (polymer) isn't what I expected in the pointy end of a "tactical pen". But after several weeks of use I think the polymer is far more comfortable for writing than aluminum would be.
If I had wanted this pen primarily to serve as a weapon I would have returned it ASAP. If that is what you are looking for this isn't the best option out there. Also, you wouldn't want to put your thumb over the top of the pen to deliver maximum force because the very sharp glass breaker would definitely injure your thumb.
My primary reason for buying this pen was for the glass breaker. I always have a pen close at hand and I never know when I will need to extract myself or someone else from a car. But to call this an "aluminum" tactical pen is deceptive.
But, for me, I consider this purchase a "happy accident" because this pen is so comfortable to write with. It doesn't hurt my fingers at all. And while a flat top would be better for using this pen as a weapon, the glass breaker makes this pen socially acceptable. Because whenever anyone sees me using this pen they ask "whats with that pen?" thinking I'm some kind of nut. But when I tell them it's a glass breaker the make a comment like "men and their toys" and all is well.
I gave this pen 4 of 5 stars because it isn't all aluminum as advertised. But for day to day use I give it 5 stars...solid, comfortable to use as a pen, and it might save my life one day.

Perfect!

This pen is an overall great pen, it has a perfect weight to it, the glass breaker is great, and the grip is amazing. The only downfall I have at the moment is that if I try to twist the other way to unwind the pen and get access to the ink cartridge, it NEVER STOPS UNWINDING! The two pieces of the pen don't move a dang centimeter apart, and I am very disappointed because I bought 5 refills for this pen for the long run and can't even place them in the pen! This pen was defective apon arrival, and I hope to talk to the company about this since it us one of my edc essentials!
Update: They sent me another pen without hesitation, and it works perfect! I am very pleased with my purchase because, like I said, it is essential to my Every Day Carry. Thank you!

Heavy and Not Recommended for the Work Place
Wathan48•March 31, 2017
You need to know upfront that this is, by far, the heaviest pen I've ever owned. The advantage to this is that it's well made and if you ever needed to use it for self defense or window breaking, it would work well.
However, for ever day carrying, it definitely weighed everything down.
Also, the point on the glass break makes this pen hard to hide as a potential weapon. I had to be careful how I presented this pen at work because it could've been constituted as a weapon.
Overall, a quality pen that wrote well. However, between the weight of the pen and the noticeable point, it became a liability for work. Would work great for personal use or home use.

Best Pen I Own
Adam•February 12, 2017
I've been using a Smith & Wesson tactical pen for the past few months, and don't get me wrong, it's a good pen. But the smooth metal tip just irked me the wrong way (I'm very sensitive to material sensations for some reason). So I bought this pen since the end had like grooved notches at the end to grip.
I couldn't be happier. It feels great in the hand, the ink writes better than any other pen I've had (I really wish I knew what kind it was, the cylinder isn't labeled), and the twist to expose the tip is so much more convenient than my previous pen that had a screw on cap. The glass-breaker tip also feels sharper and more sturdy, but I honestly don't intend to use it, I mainly wanted a tactical pen for the weight of it while writing with my sausage fingers.

I love this pen

I love this pen. Writes great as a pen, feels awesome in your hand, has real good weight to it, and it has knurled center so it won't slip out of your hand easily when used as a weapon. Either end will do sufficient damage by either striking, stabbing or scrapping an assailant. I highly recommend this one over all the other I've seen out there and I've checked out many before I bought this one.
