Handy Stand

Update, well that didn't last long. The plastic parts are a bit of a problem. I accidentally leaned on it one time (I rolled over it in bed) and the mechanism that locks it into place completely collapsed. My bad, but I've learned the hard way to be more careful with it. I've ordered a new pne because my original assessment still stands, but wanted to warn you to ne careful.

Original Review:

This is a great little stand! I was looking for something to use in bed with my Kindle HD 10 and am very pleased with how stable it is in portrait or landscape even on soft surfaces. It is fully adjustable and can be used at even steep angles without worrying that it will topple over. I've also used it with my iPad 2 and my Kindle HDX 7 with no issues. It's advertised that it's made of heavy aluminum, which is partially true. The kickstand (thr part that actually holds the weight) is actually made of sturdy plastic. Still, this stand is designed to support tablets, which aren't very heavy, so I don't foresee this being an issue. It has a button that you have to push in order to change the angle of the stand. It's very stiff and I have to use both hands in order to do it. It's a little annoying, but it also makes me think that the spring catch is very sturdy and will last a long time. My favorite part is that it's small and folds completely flat, so it can take everywhere. The photos show it with my HD10 at work (hard surface), but it works equally well snuggled up in bed (soft surfaces)
## DO NOT BUY!! ## (Updated Review -- Second Update)

Looks like other reviewers are having problems with the mechanism. Why would you make a solid aluminum stand, but not make the mechanism solid? I have had zero problems with that, though.

I prefer the Supcase Unicorn Beetle case with built-in screen protector, so I got one of those for my new 2017 iPad. I was hesitant about buying this stand for it because I was afraid the edge of the Supcase would not slip into the "lip" of the stand -- same problem one reviewer had with an Otterbox case.

Fortunately, this stand and case work well together, but I've found I prefer to lay the aluminum surface down and support the tablet by flipping up the plastic flap in the back. Works great, and is more stable that way AND I bet you could even do this with an Otterbox case...

Overall, I am quite pleased with the product and have purchased two additional ones to leave in various locations in my home. Adjust it once, and you are done.

## UPDATE ## ALERT ## UPDATE ## ALERT ##

I bought three of these and have had them a total of four months. One down, two to go. Sat down at my desk the other day and discovered the plastic piece now moves freely without pushing in the button on the left side. I disassembled the entire thing to find out what had happened.

Imagine if you will a steel rod with a plastic doohickey glued to one end. The end of the doohickey resembles a gear, and its narrow body is like a tube with four long narrow tabs on it that are meant to move left-to-right within guide slots in the large movable plastic piece when you press the "button" on the left side. This in turn disengages the "gear" from an inset in the main aluminum component, allowing you to move the large plastic piece forward or backward. When you release the "button", the tabs slide left in the guide slots, and the "gear" drops back into its inset, locking the plastic piece in place.

Now imagine that you have a teenage thug in your family who takes interest in the various doodads on / in your desk, and examines them all while you're away at work. Not realizing there is a button release on the left side, yet knowing the stand is adjustable, he applies his considerable muscle until the plastic flap moves freely without pressing the button. He then shrugs his massive shoulders, sets the stand back on your desk, and goes on his merry way.

Upon disassembly, you discover that all four of the plastic tabs have broken off the doohickey and are lodged within their respective guide slots. There's absolutely no way in hell to repair the damage, nor to jury-rig a solution. The doohickey is now just a gear-shaped object with a smooth cylindrical body, and the high-quality aircraft-aluminum tablet stand you're so delighted with is now a useless piece of junk.

For three dollars more, they could have made a METAL doohickey instead of a plastic one, resulting in a tough, high-quality, delightful product. Of course, if they did that, then they'd only sell so many and no more, right? WRONG!! I was going to buy another one for work.

Remember when you were a kid, and you got a new toy and it lasted a week, and then you somehow broke a small plastic piece off of it, completely disabling it forever? As long as there's plastic, and as long as there's China, we can always revisit those wonderful days of our youth.

SECOND UPDATE: Two down, one to go! I accidentally placed my computer case against one of my last two stands. Discovered later that I broke it! INFURIATING, because I know how and why it broke! Cheap, P-poor design! I feel like just busting the last one and getting it over with. It's only a matter of time!

I bought this for my wife's iPad Pro 12.9. This is a very small stand. I feel it is barely suitable when the tablet is viewed in the landscape orientation due to the tablets size. In portrait, the tablet is more than double the height of the stands back. If you are touching the top of the tablet and depending on the force used, the tablet can be come unstable (flip out of the stand).
The stands build quality appears to be good. This product would be fine for a Fire 8 or smaller Ipad. The advertising claim that it suitable for the iPad 12.9 is misleading.
Elegant, Practical Stand

Don't let the economical price fool you, the TechMatte XL-size stand is a great product, perfect for the iPad Pro models. This is not a flimsy, lightweight stand, it has some heft to it which makes it sturdy and stable and securely supports the iPad vertically as well as horizontally. It is elegantly designed with a sleek modern look which complements the iPads. The stand adjusts to several angles and they lock in place with the release button on one end of the top bar. While taking photographs, the stand is very handy for maximum stability. There is a firm cushion in the bottom lip and bumpers on all areas that come in contact with the iPad and with any surface the stand is used on - these keep the stand and the iPad from slipping and protect from scratches. I have an Apple Silicone Case on my iPad and it fits in the lip of the stand perfectly. Overall a well-designed, well-made product.
iPad Pro + Apple case and Smart Cover fit just fine. Very nice.

Seems very sturdy. Looks good. Nice choice of angles. My iPad Pro plus the Apple silicone case and with the Smart Cover folded back all fit perfectly into the slot. But there's no room left, so if your case/cover totals out thicker than the Apple version, it probably won't fit. That would likely apply to only heavier, very protective case/covers, I think. One caveat: changing the angle requires a solid push of the button on the left hand side of the hinge, as shown in the instruction booklet. I could see how someone, not having read the instructions, could break off the support trying to force it. I gave it a couple of pulls myself before I surrendered and read the instructions. Happily, I did no damage. Early on, this looks like a good product at a reasonable price.
