I debated on purchasing the thermostat at the same time as this mat after reading through the reveiws.
Many people stated that the mat only got warm and some stated it got too hot without the thermostat to control it.
I opted to try it without the thermostat and it fried my seedlings and will completely dry out saturated starting soil with a humidity dome in about 4 hours.
It does heat very evenly but gets WAY to hot for germination without the thermostat.
I rated 4 out of 5 stars because as a germination mat, this should be a package deal with the thermostat as this mat wouldn't successfully germinate a cactus seed at the high temperature it operates at.
I have now received and installed the thermostat which seems to work very well with the mat and I noticed that the temperature sensor on the thermostat can also be used to monitor air temperature (according to the manufacturer) so I will be using it later this summer to control a window fan after my seeds have germinated.

Bought this VIVOSUN Durable Waterproof Seedling Heat Mat 48" x 20.75'. I can fit 6 trays (each has 12 pc of 4"x4" square pots) and there's room for another 6pc. I had it 4 + days now, it help me germinate my pepper seeds in less than a week. It works well so far!
