really was a beautiful necklace. And for it's size
eltree✓ Verified Purchase•March 23, 2018
4-stars, and yet I returned it.
It really, really was a beautiful necklace. And for it's size, it'd be the sort of thing you wear and carry frequently. But it was just so shrill - and ocarinas are already a pretty sine-wave-y, shrill-sounding instrument family, and this was bright and tinny even for that. The first couple notes were great, but any higher and you'd be rattling your skull. It wasn't very well tuned either - even a poor ear would notice it after the first 3 or 4 notes (intonation got worse the higher it went) - and that's if you care to pay attention to the tuning through the timbre.
Having said all that, it is insanely cheap, gorgeous, and sort of functions as an ocarina. For multi-instrumentalists, it's still maybe worth it. For a decoration, it's still worth it. Otherwise, hold your breath.

I'll need to buy a second one to really test the quality

So for me personally, this thing is perfect as I basically just wanted something to fiddle with at red lights and a cool necklace for a conversation piece. It does just that... most of the time.
The major flaw here is the actual string it comes on but I don't know where to attribute this fault. I've got a 12 hole ocarina that has the same exact type of string and both do the same thing: unravel quite frequently. The 12 hole isn't a problem obviously since I don't wear it around my neck, but with this 6 hole one it's actually a huge issue... but my other 6 hole's string is VERY secure so I'm not sure how to judge this. Is this the norm?
This ocarina has fallen from my neck (I'm 5ft 8) and gone crashing to the floor more times than I can count. One time I lost it at work and had to go on a search- kind of embarrassing and frustrating since at the time it was brand new. It just doesn't stay tied, the knots will undo themselves in little time. I keep meaning to try and just sew the knots together as a possible solution. For now I basically knot it like 20 times and try to keep track of it as it unravels.
Anyway, the thing has taken some damage really quickly because of this problem. The first time it fell one of the holes cracked on the inside. Or maybe it came like this, I'm not sure. Another time it fell off and bounced behind my bed, so now the paint is coming off near the mouthpiece. Just now when taking pictures I noticed paint is starting to chip off around the holes too. And just to note, though I don't personally care, you can see the pixals in the design so it kind of looks cheap up close. But I mean.. It IS $15 so I guess that's exactly what it is.
I plan to buy this again because regardless of all this I seriously love this little thing as a whole. The sound is kind of shrill though to be honest and idk if that's because of the crack inside of it or just bad technique. I want to replace it just to check and be sure.
I gave this 3 stars because I think it's kind of ridiculous that you have to either constantly be aware of the string or find yourself an alternative like sewing it or glue or something just so the necklace part does it's job. For me personally it gets 4 stars since it does what i wanted it for but i think based on an objective look at my review it should only get 2, so I'll meet in the middle with 3.

Bigger than expected

It hurts me to leave 3 stars to be honest, but I guess I should of expected it to be bigger than I'd hoped. Does not work well as a necklace, paint is fading and I just opened it, I love the legend of zelda and have another's ocaraina already made of plastic and sounds a lot better than this one sadly and I paid less. I got this one mainly as a necklace for me and my fiancée (bought 2) but overall it's a ocarina of time, so I at least had to give it 3 stars. But for build quality, size, and use it would receive 2 stars
Neat for Link lovers

Neat little trinket for the Link enthusiast. Bought for my son as a gift and I love that it came with a little booklet complete with songs to play. I love the sound of this thing, but my husband can't stand it, so kiddo just loans him his noise cancelling headphones (see my other reviews for those). It sounds kind of like a breathy whistle, if that makes sense. It's kind of big for everyday wear as a necklace, but I guess it wouldn't sound right if it were smaller. The necklace cord is plenty sturdy enough to support it if you do want to wear it though. Neat toy for Link and music lovers.

Sounds great, if you want a small instrument you can wear as a jewel this is a must have. Ceramic is great quality and durable, the cord however is not. I recommend replacing the core with something much sturdier.
