Very sturdy and not tipsy, unlike other brands! The stand has a platform which holds the ceramic bowl safely in place! Others have a support ring at the top which hangs the ceramic bowl and can be very unstable. I bought these to replace my older set from BB&B. These are much better! I also tried a newer set from BB&B and their design had changed and it was actually worse and very unstable. I had to return those to BB&B! I have been using these a lot, not just for butter, but for many other dipping sauces.
Tip: The only note I would make is to light the tealight candle first and then place the ceramic bowl on it, otherwise you risk scorching the sides of the ceramic with your matchstick, leaving a black mark, and that is very hard to clean off and may not come off. Otherwise, it is perfect.
