I was about to return this item because like many of the 1 star reviews it would only spin for 10 seconds before stopping. But then I realized you have to hold it at 45 degrees or greater to the ground (see picture). Then your circular wrist motion will increase the ball speed.
If you hold it so that the opening is parallel (i.e facing) the ground it just doesn't work.
Hope this helps.

Tricky to learn at first, but YOU WILL GET IT!

The media could not be loaded. Just received this in the mail yesterday, and FINALLY figured out how to make it work. Note: I purchased this product for wrist and forearm strengthening purposes. It took me multiple tries before I understood the right movement and momentum to get the gyro ball working.
This is how I figured out how to make it work. The instructions inside the box are similarly written, but I feel like this description is more straightforward (and I added a video, so hopefully that'll help, too):
1) Insert one end of the string into a hole.
2) Wrap the string in line with the groove by rotating the gyro ball, and yes, the string will overlap. The purpose of the string is to create the initial momentum for the gyro ball. I haven't been able to start the gyro ball without the string, but I guess that's for more advanced users.
3) Hold the bottom of the gyro ball (ball facing up) and pull the string STRAIGHT up with force. It's possible to pull the string at an angle, but there's a greater chance of the end of the string getting caught inside the plastic holder for the gyro ball (speaking from experience).
4) Flip the gyro ball down (so that the hand holding the base is now on top AKA back-of-the-hand side up) and rotate your wrist clockwise while keeping your arm AND forearm straight. You'll hear the gyro ball pick up speed until the VROOOMMMM! sound picks up and the lights start flashing.
5) It'll be a lot easier to alternate hands and focus on your forearm or wrist at other angles after the gyro ball has picked up the right momentum. Have fun!
I'll have to add to this review after I see how well it impacts my wrist strengthening. It feels pretty effective, so I have high hopes.
EDIT: IT WORKS! Slowly but surely, my wrist strength AND wrist flexibility has progressed. I really ought to practice with it more often than I currently do (at the moment, I use it at least 1-2 times a week), but the speed with which I can handle the gyro ball and longevity of maintaining that speed has improved tremendously. Big fan.

I bought this because I have pain in my wrist constantly, it does take a few minutes to get the hang of it but once you do, it's actually kind of addicting ðŸ'ˆ
Helped heal my wrist

I bought this because I was having slight wrist pain on my pinky side for months. Been using it every other day for the past two weeks and I'm in disbelief, the pain is gone. I was able to do a push-up without pain for the first time in a while. So grateful for this device! Keep in mind going to sleep with a wrist guard helped as well and I didn't have *severe* wrist pain to begin with, but significant enough to where I couldn't do certain workouts. Once you get the hang of it you'll see results, depending on the cause of the wrist pain. I would caution using this if you have major wrist instability!
