Router and Modem affected by UPS placement
Heaven Can Wait.✓ Verified Purchase•October 27, 2017
Seems well assembled.. Didn't like that the lead acid battery was over 7 months old when I received it, since lead acid batteries have a limited shelf life.
The Powerchute software is a nice option on such an inexpensive UPS.
Reason for this review: Anyone else notice a decrease in your Router's WiFi signal strength if placed close to this UPS? Router range and speed took a severe hit after I hooked it up right above the UPS. After a few days finally identified this UPS as the culprit.
Moved my NetGear AC1900 from directly above the UPS to a foot away.. problem solved.. Weird

We have over 50 PCs in operation at our site. We have used the 350 series for base workstations primarily for surge protection and to give users momentary protection in the event of a power spike / outage. We used the 350s and replaced batteries as necessary with many units lasting for 8 and 10 years. With the 350 being phased out, I bought this unit to give it a 'shake down'. First, the unit feels flimsy. Next, the battery seems to be PURPOSELY DESIGNED NOT TO BE REPLACED. The old 350s had a very accessible battery. This unit , has DEEPLY RECESSED security bits that appear to be designed to prevent the replacement of a battery. Not to be deterred, I ordered a special set of deep security bits that were NARROW. Unfortunately they are not narrow ENOUGH. I am now going to see if I can open the screw access holes with a DRILL BIT, just so I can access the battery, Obviously, this will need to be done carefully. All in ALL TO MUCH WORK just to use APC. If you're into "BUY IT and TOSS IT" you might be satisfied. If you are used to APC QUALITY, I think you will be VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Update.......
I was able to open the unit using a #1 Phillips screwdriver with a 3/16 shank that was 5 inches long. What I found confirmed my fears.
This unit is poorly made. The circuitry is not separated from the battery as the older units are. The battery does not even say 'APC', the supplied Chinese battery had the wire connectors crimped to the battery. One came off with a bit of struggle, the other would have required too much force and I was afraid I'd pull the post out of the battery. All in All a VERY SAD reflection on what once was a fine American Company. I have no qualms about a company wishing to cut manufacturing cost but there is no reason to cut QUALITY as well.
I have attached photos of the interior of this unit as well as the battery and an 'original' APC battery.

I've used APC UPS backup products for years where I work and they have always been reliable...

I've used APC UPS backup products for years where I work and they have always been reliable. Those unit were/are a lot larger than the current ones that I've ordered for home use, but I'm hoping that they will be just as reliable for the long haul. I ordered 2 units and they both arrived in perfect working order.
I'm using one for my iMac, cable internet/voice modem/router, VOiP phone, and 2 external backup drives. The second unit is being used with my MacBook and backup drive. The only issue is that the optional software that you can use to control other functions of the unit is only for Windows, so us Mac users are out of luck.

Terrible experience - trying to ship it back

This item failed less than 3 weeks into first use. The Battery + Surge section just completely died w/o any warning and I have been unable to get it recharged. Battery charge stabilized at 13.1 V but no amount of pushing the fuse button is resetting the circuit. I would like to return this item but I don't see a return button on my online order entry.
Very very disappointed.
Very very disappointed.
Lasted less than a month before total failure.

Unit failed within a month of purchase (Surge-only side continued to work, but the UPS was dead). Missed the return window because of a move, so now it's just a boat anchor. I will try to return to APC, but probably going back to CyberPower, whose units have been reliable to me for years. I liked the profile of this unit, and the large number of AC outlets, but it turned out to be worthless.
