Great high mass bridge for classic 5 hole design.

This is an excellent bridge. The inserts to allow you to adjust string spacing are truly awesome. Swapping this in and setting it up was very easy. Obviously it's a hip shot, so the quality is excellent. I put this on a Yamaha TRBX 174, and it works great.

Fitted to a 1978 American Jazz Bass. First of all it made a notable difference in tone and sustain and for that I am happy. The screw holes were not perfectly aligned but with a bit of force I got all the screws in. Maybe the bass shrunk with age. Also the intonation screws could not go in enough to properly into intonate the E and A string. I will have to cut the adjusting screw to be able to do this properly. The bridge came with only one "blue spot" med. insert installed. All the others including the spares were "no spot"(tall) inserts therefore I was unable to set the action I desired. Otherwise I am happy with the product.
This bridge made my Bass, boom

Ok this one really works, substans have improved and ring longer, the tone has rounded out and seams to resitnate the the bass wood, much stronger punch and control in slap and hand muting but overall stronger and punchy sound to cut through the clatter and get out front when needed. Installed on 2005 P bass with Lace ManOwar pickups.
It has a better, more discernable "voice"

I never thought that upgrading a bridge would have such an impact on my tone. My bass sounds so much sweeter. It has a better, more discernable "voice". It even produces more of a growl when intended as well. Huge upgrade and necessary for any fender type bass I will own in the future.
Looks great, but you may need to mod to get it to fit...

The general design and quality of parts gets a 5. The customer service from Hipshot gets a 0. That's why I gave it a 3. My bass is not a Fender (it's an SX) but has a Fender style bridge. The 5 holes lined up ok but once I installed it the saddles would not move far enough away from the pickups for the bass to intone properly. The screws to adjust intonation were too long and they don't allow you to use the full length of the groove for the saddle before they are screwed in all the way. (If you look at the product picture, not the uploaded picture I posted, the saddles are pretty close to the end by the pickups but they don't allow you to move them too close to the holes on the other side.) I emailed Hipshot to ask if they offered shorter screws but did not even get a reply. If they said no that would be fine but no response gets a 0. I had 2 options: drill another set of holes in the front of the bass to mount it in a different spot or find new screws myself. Drilling new holes would have left a couple of holes from my old bridge exposed so that was not an option. I did find some screws that worked but the head is slightly larger than the stock Hipshots. They fit sufficiently and are out of sight, but #6-32 button head machine screws 3/4" worked for me. This caused another problem though in that the stock Hipshot springs were compressed 100% and would not allow even my new screws to move the saddle where it needed to be. Luckily the springs from my old bridge compressed more and using them allowed me to set the saddle where it needed to be. If you see the attached pic I uploaded you can see where I needed to set it. The stock screws and springs would not allow me to set them here. Even my old springs are compressed almost to the max. All that said. The bridge seems pretty solid and the intonation is spot on now. If you don't have a Fender and want to use this bridge be prepared in case you need to change the screws and/or springs. The new screws were less than a buck at HD. Hipshot will be no help to you.
