Owned this item for a month and two days, with no drops or mistreatment. Switch that controls the toggle from Off to Chime and Alarm decided to stop allowing Chime as an option, then decided to not work at all. Completely broken. Beware.

This motion sensor chime is quite effective. It took a few tries to find the perfect location. When it was high up on the porch soffit it didn't cover as much area as I needed, so lower was better. I ended up placing it facing the porch about three feet off the ground on the window sill. It works well enough to detect cats and squirrels as well as people. The volume on low is plenty loud for indoor use. When on the loudest setting and placed in the back yard, for example, it can be heard in the front yard.

Got this to use at my job so I can be in the back working and will know when customers walk in. Since I'm the only employee onsite overnight, I need an extra set of eyes so I can get things done. It works perfectly and my productivity has nearly doubled. With the volume on high I can hear it almost anywhere in the store. Then I can turn the volume to low and place it a few feet away once I'm going to be in a smaller area for the rest of my shift. It has functioned perfectly regardless of where I've had it placed in the store. I could not be more pleased with this purchase.
