This is a really GREAT hair claw. I hesitated to leave a review for this product, only because my use for it is different from what most women are looking for in a clip of this type.
This clip is strong but also smooth. There are no rough edges, which can be a problem with lesser quality claw clips, snagging and tearing the hair. I think it would a fabulous clip to hold even the heaviest hair.
But my use for this clip is entirely non-hair related. I use it to temporarily hold up the hem of my muumuu house dresses.
I have Multiple Sclerosis. I am in a power wheelchair. I can still move from this to my living room lift chair, and back again. I can also move to the toilet. That is really where this clip helps me. I gather the hem of my gown to my waist. Then I use the claw clip to hold it up and out my way when, well, I need it out of way.
As I said, not hair elated. ;-) But this clip has been a real help to me. It holds the gathered fabric of even my heaviest gowns. (Denim?) It is also smooth enough for my most fragile. (Lace? Knit?) By freeing my hands from needing to hold my gowns, this clip does help preserve some measure of independence.
I'm sure there must be more women in my situation that would also find this clip, and this information about it, helpful. But if you need a really great HAIR claw, lucky you. You have found it.

Excellent Quality and Great for Thick Hair

These clips are extremely well made and grip my long, thick hair well. They're also very comfortable and don't dig into your scalp like many others. The plastic is thick and doesn't break when dropped (at least it hasn't so far and I drop things a lot, lol). Other reviewers have mentioned that the spring is very tight and the clips are difficult to open, but I find that a major plus. Instead of my fingertips, I use several fingers and the base of my thumb to open it and that works really well. I've attached photos to show how easy it is to open. Would definitely purchase these again.
Tips on fixing and making it more durable: secure the end of the pin by gluing on a magnet

I've bought 3 of these so far. The first lasted years, until one of the plastic hinges and a spring leg broke. The second and third fell apart 3 months, when the pin / rod dislodged from the hinges and spring. Looking at all the springs, the spring on the first one had the best, most durable finishing - the paint of the springs on the subsequent hair claws chipped off instantly when scratched with a fingernail.
TIPS FOR PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER:
1. Loop a rubber band around the claw handles to keep the holes aligned.
2. Tape up the two sides, so the legs of the spring won't scratch them - painter's tape kept ripping, masking tape worked well for me.
3. Wear one of those nubby rubber finger protectors for sewing to add grip and stability when pushing down the spring - I used my thumb. It hurts trying to push it down without one.
4. Use pliers to push and adjust once you get the pin through the spring.
After spending way too much time putting it together, I decided to add a few things to make it a bit more durable:
1. One end of the pin does not have a head, which means it can slip out again over time. Using Loctite Gel Control, I glued on a flat, round neodymium magnet (1/8" in diameter and 3/64" thick). If the glue breaks, then perhaps the magnet will be able to pull that pin up and keep it from slipping out.
2. Glued the ends of the spring legs onto the claw surface to keep them from slipping at weird angles, which will then cause the pin to slip eventually. Might smooth some Sugru over the ends once it dries, since they're a bit sharp, and can catch hairs.
