Bottom has hole in it. Not a flat surface under comb!

I thought the bottom of this was flat! That's how it appears in the picture! I bought this because I always notice my hair wet hair wouldn't tangle when I combed it against my hand. Sounds weird, but it works...that's what I thought this product was. This is essentially a come with a bottom loop. Comb goes right through the bottom. What's the purpose? Can't return unfortunately, so waisted my $.
