I bought these as a test and they work great! My mantle is a floating wood mantle so it's pretty thick (about 5-6"), so it can't be placed straight on as it can't tuck under the mantle. I simply hung them on their side and allowed the rubber stop grips to hold. Soon as they are filled the weight will hold it down even more. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 is that I am not a fan of plastic/acrylic and would have loved it in a few other color options like black, gold, silver but mostly in metal for something more permanent that will last. That would have made it even better!

I have no mantle at all, it's a stacked stone veneer and the 2 ladies who flipped my 1950's lakehouse added this fireplace, no mantle, and we can't tell where the wood is behind to even think about adding a mantle. My stockings are barely hanging on, but even with 2 cats trying to paw at these new dangly "toys", they don't budge. The triangle shape piece is silicone and the stacked stone sections, most aren't even large enough to hold it. I have a few that jut out 1/2" and this is enough.

I have to say, I am incredibly surprised. I have an very small mantle above my fireplace (you can see in the pictures). It is a little over 1 in and a half, and could not get anything to rest on the top, or lean on it and be able to hold Christmas stockings. I bought a child's coat rack to place the stockings on, but it was bulky, and took up a lot of space near the fireplace. I really hated that set up and figured there had to be a prettier way to hang my stockings. I saw these, read the reviews and thought I would give it a try, worse case scenario, they break, I throw them out, small price to pay. They are awesome. Not only do they hold my Christmas stockings, I also added weight to see if they would hold up from Christmas Eve till Christmas morning when the kids tear through them and they do!!! I am shocked because they look almost delicate. I love that they are clear, they blend in with the house decor and Christmas decor nicely. I highly recommend this item. I bought the 8 pack, I needed 5 and figured have a few extras in case I needed to double up or one broke.
