Other than installing two batteries, no assembly was required. This is a well-made, good looking wooden box which serves no function other than providing laughs and smiles. It gave my teenage granddaughter giggle fits. Even after the newness wore off, she still could not resist toggling the switch. For that matter, neither can I. My only suggestion for improvement would be to replace the clear plastic striker (which turns off the switch) with a realistic looking hand or paw.
My granddaughter is amazed with it.

I told my granddaughter after it starts running for three seconds it will start talking to you. It never really gets going so it never talks. But she still talks to it hoping it will respond. She plays with it everyday. I've told her it's just a toy and she says I know grandpa, but you don't. Hahaha.

This thing is fantastic, we can not stop playing with it! Saw something like this on a TV show and my roommate was cracking up about it. Naturally, I had to get it for him for Christmas and it has brought so much joy to our home already. Even hearing someone flip it while they're walking by makes me giggle.
The box itself is small, but very sturdy. The battery compartment is simple to open/close and batteries are easily replaced. Flip the switch and a mechanical pointer quickly comes out and flips it back closing the box again.

Great idea, but the trigger to shut down moves very fast. Half the speed would have made it creepier, but the idea is great and the grandkids are fascinated with it.
