Our state has passed a law that says you cannot hold your phone at anytime while driving. I've had the Macaulay Car Up Holder Phone Mount over four weeks now. It is still working nicely. It took a minute to get it to adjust to the cup holder size and after reading the other reviews I haven't been keen on removing it just to reinstall. It is very convenient, easy to see while driving. Yes, because the neck is so long there is some "jiggling" while driving but nothing obtrusive. It keeps the phone within finger distance. (We are allowed to touch the phone with one finger when the car is stopped.) I've tried other car mounts and none of them work with the dashboard of my car. Also the feature that lets you charge not just your phone but another device is really handy.

Especially as I HATE window mounts and don't really have anywhere to mount a suction cup type device.
I drive a lot... 100k miles a year is not unusual. (132k+ last year.)
Anyway...schlepping my shtuff cross country means that I need to make some accommodations...as in I can't have the phone in my hands 24/7. LOL
This works GREAT in the pickup I use to drive coast to coast (Silverado)...in my Passat, not as much.
And in my Del Sol (What? They have cup holders?! LOL) not at all. Period, end of discussion.
If your cup holders are in front and easy to glance at, this should work well.
If you can't see them (Del Sol) or they're just awkward...move along.

I love this thing. We live in a nanny state that has recently enacted a very tough distracted driving law. Fine, I agree people shouldn't be texting while they drive, but I use a map application pretty often to give me driving directions. Now I can be fined for merely having a phone in my hand. I bought this mount to solve the problem. I don't have any convenient place on the dashboard for the phone to go, and the holders that clip into the vent vanes are flimsy. This unit drops into a spare cup holder, turn the bracket ring counterclockwise until it's tight, and you're all set. The gooseneck is highly adjustable and raises the phone up to a good viewing level. The base has two USB chargers plus two other 12V cigarette lighter sockets, so plenty of power to charge up everybody's devices. Five stars from me.
