My ORIGINAL Duraflame was FABULOUS * The 'New' Duraflame NOT SO MUCH
Laurie✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 8, 2017
My original Duraflame Fireplace/Heater lasted for close to 4 years before it ultimately conked out. I had no problem with that as it had served its purpose longer than I thought it would. San Francisco nights can be very cold all year long. So I find the same frplc set on Amazon on June 30th, but I want to make sure it also has the same 3 prong plug in that my original set had. 5 out of 7 people said "YES, IT DOES". I could not imagine why 2 people said they had a regular 2 prong plug? Why would this fireplace unit be manufactured with two different style plugs? So I ordered it and a 3 year protection plan. It arrived today... so excited when UPS showed up. I didn't even have to pull the unit out of the box to see it had a &#@! TWO PRONG PLUG! To add insult to injury, AMAZON Customer Service tells me that I will be charged a fee (couldn't or wouldn't tell me how much of a fee) for UPS to pick up the package at my home. The outer ship box is HUGE and it's slightly heavy and very awkward to carry - just ask my UPS guy . So hauling it over to the UPS facility is out of the question for me! The 1 Star is for a non-usable product and a no thanks to Amazon for such a time-wasting and disappointing experience!!! (pic is of my orig. fireplace insert)
UPDATE: RETURNED the "never unpacked" Duraflame within 24 hours and I am being CHARGED $20.86 for the privilege of doing business with AMAZON...
WARNING!! STAY IN ROOM WHEN IN USE! MINE CAUGHT ON FIRE

The unit I received had a faulty cord. It does tell you in the manual that the heater will Overheat the wall outlet but it doesn't tell you is it can easily catch on fire.
My heater was two days old before my walk was a blaze. Duraflame is owned by Twin Star corporation. They tell you on their site that customer safety and excellent customer service are type priority.. NOT! Lies on both matters .
It took five weeks for a supervisor to get back in touch with me after I reported the fire. And then a Nother eight return calls before an email arrive telling me to please start over and explain my reason for contacting Twin Star.
However they do make some good products I do have four other expensive heaters at the manufacture it was only the log style they gave me the problem.
Realistic logs, hot heat. Pretty.

A very pretty space heater that fits firebox perfectly. Flames in back are adjustable, heater thermostat is adjustable, can use fireplace flames with or without heater, pretty quiet, pumps heat that cycles on/off as temp requires in short bursts. Really like the setting that puts flames on low with the logs holding constant color. It's very peaceful. Only thing its missing is a soundtrack of crackling fire so I bought the little black $29 sound box from Comfort Smart (shown in photo) and it finishes the look/feel. On far right front, I disguise cord in the firebox with the last piece of wood we burned and a few 2 inch coals left from last fire. May get some lava rocks for front of grate.... I put the black metal frame door in front and that completes the ambiance. The sound box is battery run and is next to the fireplace tools (don't see it but can be heard well on LOW.). The cord is a around 5 ft long, coming out the right side of the unit. It just reaches my wall plug. It is hidden behind the tools and other items on hearth. I attached a couple pictures and video with the flames, logs and sound box turned on. I did not record with heater on, that lights up below the unit. I noticed that sometimes the unit hums/buzzes a bit from vibration. I moved it in the firebox and seem to have found the best location to minimize that. I put this artificial flame unit in my fireplace for several reasons: 1) needed a space heater to save on overall heating costs. Made practical sense to use the firebox to do that. Hoping the unit will be as cheap to run as advertised. 2) I enjoy burning a real wood fire, and don't mind cleaning up after it. Just don't like leaving it burning when I go to bed. 3) Its attractive any time of the year. 4) Chose this unit over cheaper units because the heater is supposed to handle larger rooms. This SHIPPED FAST. (Would recommend product & seller.)
Instant fireplace. Warm and Cozy.

The Duraflame electric fireplace came on time assembled. Just plug it in and instant fire for viewing pleasure. The heater actually warms a nice area in the living room. Fortunately we had an outlet adjacent to the fireplace. The optional crackling sound box added an element of authenticity. Good price, good product, cozy feelings.
near-perfect replacement for your actual fireplace.

We bought this heater in an effort to make our fireplace more functional. Our fireplace is a woodburning fireplace, but it is merely decorative, and whenever we light a fire, it does very little to actually heat our living room. We also are always afraid we are going to burn our house down when we go to bed and leave hot coals in the fireplace. We thought it would be neat to have this nifty little device.

1. Heater - The infrared heater on this seems to be pretty powerful and feels like it won't have too much problem heating our 14x25-foot living room. It only has one setting, but does have a crude thermostat on the side. But let's be serious, when you want heat from a space heater, you only ever put it on High anyway, right?

2. Decorative qualities - it's very well made. The faux-embers glow randomly to create a realistic hot-coal burning effect. LED lights shine from the back of it to create a flame illusion on the back of the fireplace. It is not terribly bright, but is pretty convincing. I took off one star b/c the motor that creates this effect sometimes creates such a strong vibration that it resonates through the body of the heater, and makes a loud rattling sound. I had to play with the heater to make this resonance not happen, which, really, it could come back at any time. Also, the cord isn't long enough to plug into any outlet unless it's within 1 foot of your fireplace. We needed an extension cord. Other than that, I would have given it 5-stars easily. I really like that you leave the infrared heater off and just leave the flame effects on and use it in warmer weather. It's nice not to have a completely dormant fireplace! See pic below:

I'll update this review this winter when we really use the heat from it.

EDIT: UPDATE
We love this thing! It really doesn't use a lot of electricity, and we used it quite frequently during the winter. On Christmas Eve, our furnace died and we had to spend the next week with no furnace. This stayed on for much of the week, and it kept our livingroom at 70F all week long all by itself. The heat is not very powerful, but it definitely does its job. We have no regrets.
