I love the idea of a firestarter and knife sharpener that is handy and readily accessible. The addition of a signal whistle is puissant as well. Unfortunately, the fishhook and serrated edge sharpener lost it's abrasive edge on the first use with a moderate hardness steel blade. It might function as a dull awl, but it's never going to sharpen fishhooks or knife blades. The abrasive surface literally flaked off on the first pass! Finally, the angle of the knife sharpening blades (both tungsten steel and ceramic) do not match that of the sharpal's bigger counterpart - so you can't use it to touch up the rough edge you've given your tools with the Sharpal 103N.

I bought this not really knowing to expect. I've used it sharpen up a couple old pocket knives, and it works pretty well. If you are looking to put a perfect edge on a knife, this is not for you. But in a emergency kit or for camping etc, it works perfectly. Fire starter works ok, Again not for prolonged use but in an emergency it's do the job. Haven't used the hook sharpener The whistle is loud. What can you say about a whistle... So a great value, good to throw one in the glove box, one in your pack etc etc. Four stars is for the fact that is advertised as six in one tool. As far as I can see, there are five tools. I believe they are classifying the hole that you can attach a lanyard to or put a key ring through as the sixth tool.

I've sharpened everything from the kitchen knives, to my K-bar, and camp knives. It put a really nice edge on all. The other features are a nice touch, but my main desire is a good edge. It definitely does that.

This is a very handy little survival tool. You can sharpen your outdoor knife blade with it very easily, using the two slots. And I love the firestarter. It works really well when you drag it through the tungsten groove.
I previously tried to sharpen my outdoor knife using a different sharpener, but it made the blade a little duller for some reason. I later discovered that the sharpener I was using was meant for kitchen knives. It's all in the angle of the 2 V's. The angle in that sharpener was bad for outdoor knives.
After using this sharpener, the blade on my outdoor knife is sharp as a razor.

This tool is great! I was able to sharpen all my knives quick and easy. I love all the little extra features built in also. Make sure you scrape off the black coating on the fire started before you try to use it (this is also explained in the instructions).
