Not sure what good is the strap
James Cho•September 25, 2017
Nothing is getting in my shoes when I go running in the mountains. Not sure what good the strap strap. After one run it was almost destroyed. The gaiter material is stiff enough that I don't think that the strap is really necessary. I just took it off and it works fine

Good quality, I kept the dust and dirt out of the shoes. Everything I expected.
Not using them like I thought i would

They are OK . . . the under the shoe ties are too long and I tripped over them a few times. Not using them like I thought i would :-/
Great when on-trail, but they come off easily hiking through thick brush.

These work good to keep fox-tails and other brush out of my Merrell Mid Waterproof boots WHEN ON TRAILS or very light/grassy terrain. (I'm not sure they will work as well on the low-cut hiking boots.)
On the flip side, they are worthless when hiking well off-trail and/or going through heavy brush. There is nothing to keep them fully attached to the boot. With only Velcro down the front to hold them together, a few steps through thick/grabby brush and they open up, at which point the hook in the laces pops off and you lose the gaiter.
This happened twice during one 3.5 mile hike. Luckily I had only gone a hundred yards before realizing it the first time, which kept me more vigilant to catch it right away the second time.
Again, they are good for the light stuff, just don't go off-trail.
I'll be looking for something that attaches more securely.
