Pretty Alright. Minimal Sound Quality Loss.
mplsmaven•February 21, 2018
I have an older model car that doesn't have Bluetooth built into the stereo. This was a workaround that allowed me to play the media from my phone over the radio in my car. It does just want you would expect it to and pretty well.
It also charges your phone while it's plugged in. However, even though I connected my iPhone via the lightning charging cord, it wouldn't read the media off my phone like it would a USB flash drive with media on it. My Ford Escape used to do this.
I think there is minimal sound quality loss when using this device. I don't think you will ever get that bass thumping you might want given the numerous channels the media has to go through before actually coming out of your speakers. It even announces the phone numbers that are calling. I can't say how the call quality was, as I stopped using it to get better sound quality. Overall, it's good to do what you need it to do if you can get passed the occasional scratchy radio waves that might happen as you are driving between varying radio station strength areas.

the sound isn't as strong as I would like it. It works and I can call easily

It's ok, but I don't know, the sound isn't as strong as I would like it. It works and I can call easily, but I have to raise the volume very high on my phone, my car, and the transmitter. With the aux cord I used to use prior to this, I did not have to raise the volume much. I would have the volume at 4 or 6 on my car and it was pretty clear. With this transmitter, I have to have the volume of my car at 8-12 to listen to music well and if I call someone, the volume of my car has to be at 20-25 for me to hear very clear. I'm thinking of the pros and cons of having this transmitter and I'm not too sure if I should return it. It works fine, sure, the call feature is good and I can skip songs at ease but is the quality of the sound well worth it? I don't know.

Great product! I bought this little gem for my 1999 Ford Ranger. Evidently, I'm going through a mid-life crisis of sorts because I decided to add a 3 inch lift, bigger tires, and sweet wheels and get a little bit of that truck's youthful mojo back! After all, it was my first car after college and the only vehicle I ever bought new. I like that truck. Only one problem with the truck--it didn't have bluetooth. I like talking on the phone hands free (while driving) and I thought I'd give this one a shot.
This was way easier to setup and get started that I thought it would be. The audio is clear. The transmission from the bluetooth device to the radio is seamless and I haven't had any cracks, pops, cross static, radio interference, or loss of signal. You can leave the hands free device plugged in while you're not in the car and it won't drain the battery. The push to talk button works great with the iPhone and it actually dials better than the bluetooth device built into my Prius.
Now that I think about it, that's exactly why I'm fixing up my truck. I drive a freaking Prius, people! And I wanted something with a little more grit to take camping AND talk hands-free while driving. I'm going camping after the first of the year and I really don't want to pull up to the site in a Prius. Don't get me wrong, I love my Prius. It holds TONS of gear, but it looks like a door stop. There. You have it. That's why I'm lifting my truck.
The streaming audio works like a champ on this bad boy! I've been totally jamming to Christmas music lately on my Pandora station. After you pair the phone with the device, it's just as easy to stream music. Nothing like going down the road in a awesome looking truck jamming out to Otis Redding singing "Merry Christmas Baby". Honestly, the Bonnie Raitt / Charles Brown version of that song rocks too. They did a duet on the "A Very Special Christmas Album 2" album and it's fantastic. Both versions sound nice and clear on this!
Side note: I haven't tried the micro SD slot on the handsfree yet, so I can't give you a review on that. Maybe I'll do an update when I get time.
The only downside I've heard from it is not on my end. Sometimes the people I call say that they hear their voice echo. I'm assuming it's because they hear their voice coming through my radio. Actually, the only person that's really complained about it is Rob--and he complains about every damn thing on the planet. I'm serious. Right now his big beef is that Thor Ragnarok was just "too slapsticky". This is coming from THE SAME GUY who made me watch Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. And that's 42 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Never. Get. Back.
I was a little worried that it may protrude too far from my cigarette lighter slot (yes, this truck is old enough to have a cigarette lighter) and catch the shifter on the way down. It doesn't. It's got a low profile and it's perfect for tight spaces! YES!
All in all, this is a great product. I recommend it to anyone looking to add hands free audio to their car.
I've already bought one for my wife's Smart car for Christmas. I hope she doesn't read this. I've also included pictures of it in the vehicle so you can see just how far it protrudes. Also, here's pictures of the truck, Prius, and Smart car. I just washed both of them so I thought I'd share the pictures. Yeah, I know the paint is peeling on the truck. I'm about to fix that, too. I went ahead and included the mockup of what I'm about to do to the truck too! It's getting it's mojo back! AWWWWWWW YISSSSSSS!

Small, Reliable, Convenient!
CTA•August 25, 2017
Purchased two of these, one for a 2003 Dodge Ram and one for a 2004 Ford Ranger. Both work very well and are actually quite small and convenient!
They connect right up to phone when I get in and the sound quality is about what you would expect from this "type" of device.
USB for charging works well and fast. Haven't tried card yet.

Great way to bridge your smartphone to any car stereo
herrdoktor330•July 18, 2017
Pros: FM Sound Quality is good. Easy to set up. Easy way to modernize any car in your garage without installing a specialized radio.
Cons: Radio stations that are "empty" vary from area to area and interference happens from time to time. Not 100% clear on the broadcast length, but it could be a problem for antennas located in the rear of a vehicle. Don't use this for an in-car hands free speaker phone. Noone will hear you if you do, as the mic is (obviously) built into the device and not great quality.
Notes: I didn't try the built in media player features. I just used this to pair with/charge my iPhone 7plus.
Overall: Cons aside, this thing is great for the person who doesn't want to bother installing a new stereo system in their car. Or if you travel around and don't want to rely on rental cars having all the features you'd like. Would highly recommend.
