Like a lot of people, I didn't really pay attention to the description and was unhappy with the fact that the blade doesn't lock in place - it's just not what I'm used to.
But after using it a few times, I got the hang of it and it really is the safest type of box cutter/knife out there. The key to using it comfortably is to NOT constantly push forward on the button when using it; instead extend the blade to where you want it and grip it so your thumb is pressing DOWN on it to hold it in position. Because it doesn't lock, if your hand slips or you lose control, the blade is going to retract, making it a much safer tool than the other type.

Anyone with Amazon Prime quickly discovers that their house becomes a box museum!
We needed these two knives to help us quickly take apart Amazon boxes to fit them in our recycle bin.
CON:
I don't find them helpful, and I now end up using my hands to tear the boxes instead. The first use, they cut cardboard like butter. After that first use or two, it's a struggle to get the blade through even the scored corners of a box.
Maybe I chose the wrong tool?
PRO:
-The spare blade compartment is cool!
-Handle construction is nice and solid, not cheap or crappy.

I don't know if they've changed the product but the blade on both of mine stay out, they do not retract.

I don't understand this product. You have to hold the latch forward to keep the blade out, which I'm guessing is supposed to be a safety feature but in reality it leads to your having less control over the knife. Definitely sending it back.
