I have spent many Autumn days preparing my waterlines for the eminent onset of freezing winter temperatures, all to often to awaken to no water flowing in the kitchen or downstairs bath. I had used the black plastic heat tape found at every hardware depatment and put the black foam tubes over the heat tape as instructed. This year I figured rather than paying the plumbers to repair the breaks, I'd have the professionals prepare the waterlines ahead of time. When they told me that they would add heat tape and foam tubes I held my peace. When I saw this heat tape that they were applying and that its operation was not dependent upon the water pipe temperature, I knew we had a game changer. They measured the pipe length and assembled the heat tape right there; no waste for me to pay for. I'll never buy another style of heat tape, ever, never!
