Pasta, yes. Salad, sure. Soup... I'm not so sure. These are great "a smaller plate would work but I don't want it sloshing off the edge" bowls. They are too shallow for soup, in my opinion, but I bought them for salad and pasta and they work great for that. Other good pairings are a cheeseburger with fries, a serving of casserole, etc.
They do not chip and I have yet to break one, so that's a plus for me. When you have a teenager loading and unloading the dishwasher, you can see the "weakest links" in your chain of breakable dishes.

These are solid bowls. I had larger but similar types of bowls from IKEA before (but many were broken over the years), so rather than doing the hassle of going to Ikea just to buy bowls, I decided to give Amazon dishes a try. These turned out better than I expected; a bit smaller but still really nice. It's not your "dinner entree" sized bowls, but for having a healthy portion of pasta or stirfry, these are perfect. They came packed well too so there were no broken dishes. :D

Love these pasta plates! They are well-made and beautiful. The size is perfect for a normal main course of pasta (unless you are used to very big portions). The top of the dish is a tiny bit (1inch) smaller than a regular appetizer plate but the depth provides you with enough space for the food. They are versatile - can be used for salads or soups but we plan to mostly have them for pasta.They claim to no chip and break when dropped - we haven't tried that feature yet. They are also lead free and non-toxic (again manufacturer claims, have not verified this). They look very nice, the color does have a bluish tint but it's quite pretty. They don't take up a ton of space as they stack very efficiently. Easy to clean. Pleased with the purchase!

Fabulous! The bowls are listed as salad/pasta bowls but I use them for so much more. I love the size & really don't know how I got along before getting them. I like to cook & was getting tired of not having a shallow larger bowl to serve things in when they have a little gravy, liquid or spread out too much on a plate. These bowls are perfect! Plus, they can be used as smaller serving bowls, the white goes with everything!
