Once re jetted it runs great on my bike
Michael•December 24, 2017
Carb works great!
I took a gamble and bought this carb, I was not sure how the quality would be when it arrived, but it looked fairly good.
It had a few little things that I will mention later but once I re jetted the carb it now runs great!
So I bought this carb to see if I could fit it to a 1996 KDX200 motorcycle, I got the bike for free from a friend, and no mater what I did with the stock carb I could not get it to run right. To buy a stock replacement carb for this bike it was going to cost about $190 for a new one.
I knew I was going to need to build a aluminum adapter to fit it to my bike because this on was a little different in size.
Like I said earlier there was a few things I should mention, # 1 is at first looking over the carb I noticed there was a few small pits in the throat of the carb, (about the size of a ball point pen tip) I think this was caused from small air pockets in the casting and after the throat was bored out it exposed them, not a big problem but you would never see this on a high end carb but hey this is a cheap O.
#2 I noticed the slide in the carb was stiff on one part as you open and closed it so I took out the slide and noticed there was a few small machining burs that I filed off and sanded smooth with a bit of sand paper, simple fix.
#3 is all the jets that come with it do not have numbers stamped into them so you have no way of knowing what size they are, just throw them out and buy a Keihin pwk, oko style idle and main jet kit on amazon and your in business! This carb takes the Keihin short main jets with the flat head slot in them not the longer ones that take a socket to put them in.
Sorry for the long review but I just would like anyone looking to buy one of these carbs to know there was a few small things but over all it made my bike run great after I jetted it, and yes I would recommend buying one if you are in the same boat as I was with the old worn out stock carb.
PS I'm running 45 idle jet and a 160 main jet for my KDX200 motorcycle if this helps anyone.
