Sturdy, easy to assemble and use, bad seat
T•November 19, 2017
I'll assume you're looking at this for the same reasons I did: it's heavy duty, it's much cheaper than other units, and it doesn't take up much space. First item, it is a very sturdy unit. I'm 6'3 and 320 pounds and it handles me easily. The unit does fold up quite nicely, takes up about the space of a chair on a floor layout and is very easy to move. It is fairly easy to assemble, even if you're not really good at assemble by number. This unit doesn't sit back or as low as a standard recumbent bike, but is much easier on your knees than a standard exercise bike. The digital readout gives you all the basics (time, distance, pulse, calories burned). The tension setting adjustment gives you a good range of resistances depending on your level. The one significant downfall of this unit is the seat. It is wide enough and sturdy enough, but offers no cushion. It does get quite uncomfortable within 15 minutes, forcing you to either stop for a few minutes or reposition yourself every few minutes to continue. If you buy this unit, I 100% recommend getting a padded seat cover for this, or the next thing you know this will just turn into a very expensive coat rack.
Great bike, great price, godawful seat.

I have been using this bike almost nightly for 3 weeks now. There are a lot of pros and cons. I will get the cons out of the way first.
Cons:
Good Lord, this bike is UNCOMFORTABLE. I am a larger person (hence why I am on the 400lb rated bike!) trying to become a less large person, yay exercise. The seat on this thing is an abomination. I try to pedal for 30mins-1 hour per night. The seat will leave your seat in agony after about 15 minutes. The plus side is that my posterior goes completely numb about 5-10 minutes after that... but then getting off the bike I literally can not walk due to the pain in my a... Plan ahead, get an additional cushion for it... it won't resolve the issue... but it does let me sit on the bike for another half hour or so before I am crippled by it..
Did I mention that the seat is an abomination? Because the back support on this thing feels like something stolen from a certain Asian dictator's prisoner camp. There is *NO* support. It has caused some rather severe back pain for me using it. On the plus side, it DOES keep you from sliding off the back of the bike, so I supposed mission accomplished, as long as Exerpeutic hates its customers.
I am not sure what the bike seat's height settings are supposed to be... but with the cushion I am either too high or too low, there doesn't seem to be a happy medium setting. Too high I need to wear my shoes to comfortably keep my feet on the pedals, too low and my knees are extending above my hips. My Physical Therapist wife explained that having you knees above your waist is not proper form on a bike like this... it is more comfortable on the higher setting, but without shoes my feet leave the pedals on the down swing.
The foot straps on the pedals are not large enough. So, now that I am wearing my shoes on the bike my feet don't fit. I wear a size 13 Wide New Balance shoe, and I can only get the tips of my toes in the pedal straps. It is much more comfortable to just put my feet on top of the pedal straps... but then I have issues with positioning and worrying about my feet coming off the pedal. Pedaling barefoot has its own problems, the pedals have great texture to help your shoe not slip (unless its on top of the strap)... that texture is killer on bare feet or feet in socks. The pedals feel like a lose lose system here... on the plus side they don't hurt as much as the seat.
Pros:
Let's face it, it was the price that drew us here. This bike is phenomenally priced, it folds for easy storage.
Assembly wasn't crazy, I see some complaints about it being difficult, I did not experience that. Time consuming, sure, but difficult, no.
I love the fact that I can pedal on this while I am doing something that I want to do. (Sorry exercise nuts, I don't enjoy exercise!) I have it set up so I can watch TV or play video games while using it. It works great for this. I get some exercise in, and don't spend the whole time watching the clock, feeling bored, and counting every picosecond until I am done.
The features on this bike are good! I like the heart rate monitor, and the timer so I can track my progress. Both of these make shooting for a goal easier to do. Critical elements? No... but convenient as hell. Very happy with that part of this!
Conclusion, this is a great little bike at the price point. If they had an aftermarket seat that I could get to make it feel less like a communist torture camp chair, this would be my favorite exercise ever. A resolution to the comfort aspects of the bike would make this an EASY 5 stars.

Good & Bad

This is a tough one to review because I would give 5 stars for the bike. It's slick as can be. But I am 5'3" and my back cannot rest on the seat back or I can't reach the pedals. We went out and bought a huge piece of foam and it will work, but they need to give us more adjustments.
Great for it's price. Does everything you need.

Been looking to lose weight, but bad bad allergies keep me from being able to get out and be active. Lack of car makes going to a gym pretty much impossible. Finally got off my rear end and went looking for a bike. A few pros and a few cons for this one though the pros outweigh the cons.
First, as some have mentioned, the back? Causes sweat like you would not believe. Wear a shirt, or throw a towel over it.
Second, the positioning of the seat and handlebars are slightly awkward. I need to slouch and crunch in on myself just to reach the handle bars, so, needless to say I don't use them. The seat makes for a painful tailbone. I'll probably throw a pillow down and lower the distance to the feet for that problem.
Shipping.. It arrived a week faster than the given delivery date. That alone was bloody impressive.
Assembly was incredibly easy. I did it solo, with no problems. The only part that might have caused me a bit of issue I was able to use my shoulder to hold the piece that might have needed two people upright.
If I had any big glaring issues, it is 1. The electronics, they could have noted somewhere that it didn't matter which end went in which so long as they were all connected to pieces that fit properly. I spent more time trying to make sure I was putting tab a into the correct tab b, and discovering it didn't matter than the whole assembly itself. Issue 2. There is a small black piece of rectangular plastic along the magnetic strip for the tension resistance. YOU MUST REMOVE THIS SMALL SQUARE BLOCK OF PLASTIC OR YOU WILL NOT GET PROPER TENSION! It doesn't say this anywhere in the guide. I only discovered this after day two of trying to figure out why my tension knob wasn't working. Otherwise, the bike does what it advertises.
It's easy to assemble. It holds up to 400 pounds of person, and it's a semi-recumbant because your half laying back, and half upright. Timer works, delivery was speedy and everything was in proper order.

Good enough

Just got it, assembled, and exercised the first time. Here are the first impressions:
Well packaged, and arrived without any damage to the contents. Assembly takes about 2 hours because you need to carefully read every sentence to understand the fine details. Most of it is easy to understand and intuitive, but there are a few challenging points you need to pay attention to. Installation hardware is very well organized in a difficult to open clamshell package. You need to open one section at a time not to mix them up, and clamshell makes it a chore. You'll find many cautionary labels everywhere warning you about the pedal installations. However, none of them is as annoying as the long red labels on the pedal crank arms. They are glued using a strong adhesive and requires WD-40 to completely remove the residue.
Seat is fairly comfortable, but not great. The real test will come in the long run. Back support is not as comfortable and made out of a material that makes you sweat very quickly. Will definitely require a towel there. The display and measurements are fine. You only need the pulse and time anyway. All the others are for relative references only, not necessarily accurate. The biggest drawback of this machine is the adjustment of the exercise intensity. There are 8 levels. 1 has actually no resistance, which I understand, but there is no discernible difference from 2 through 5. And the number 8 should have been labeled as 18, because there is a huge jump in intensity from 7 to 8 to a point that only professional bikers might possibly handle. I'm not sure if mine is functioning as intended. So, for practical purposes, it's a three level exercise bike, which might be fine for most people including me.
One thing about the adjustment for height. You can adjust the seat to match your leg length, but you need to install the seat initially either for short to medium tall people or medium tall to very tall. Although it claims to cover people from 5'1" to 6'3", but not at the same time. You need to make a choice up front during the installation.
It's a well built product overall.
