Not as much as I thought

Surprised at our little was in the bag. Bought for my sugar gliders and it was gone in a week.
Good for backpacking/camping & Emergency Meals

I've been getting into backpacking recently and a hot meal on the trail is GOLD. I love Mountain House meals, but they can get pretty expensive when you're camping for a week and eating 3 meals a day. I wanted to create a DIY just-add-hot-water recipe for Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Rice and decided to try Valley Food Freeze Dried Chicken. The package was a little smaller than I anticipated and it's definitely a little pricey for what you get. The bag felt really light and the package wasn't as full when I opened it. There is some powder at the bottom, but not as much as I thought from reading other reviews. The package came with mostly solid pieces of chicken, albeit small pieces. So far from my first trail run with the recipe, I think it works well. I have to use it sparingly compared to the other ingredients, but it taste great. It's good quality, easy to use, stores well, and will last a long time.

Recipe (1 serving):
-1 tablespoon Valley Food freeze-dried chicken
- 2 heaping teaspoons of Hooser Hill Farm Big Daddy Mac
- 1 teaspoon of chicken bouillon
- 1/2 cup of instant rice
- 1/2 cup of boiling water
- 1 tablespoon freeze-dried broccoli

Just mix all the ingredients together, cover, and let sit for 9 minutes. It's easy to make. It will be great for my camping trips, and doesn't cost as much as Mountain House. I also have extra to store at home for backup Emergency Meals. I highly recommend.
Meh

Most of it was dust in the bottom of the package.
These are some of the best freeze dried beef cubes

These are some of the best freeze dried beef cubes. They taste very good and we use them to make soups with freeze dried potatoes, beans, and/or vegetables along with beef bullion, black pepper and crushed red peppers. We feel there is enough sodium in the beef cubes unless one is hiking in an environment where it is quite warm causing a unusual amount of sweat.
Chunks, but mostly dust.

I knew based on reviews I would have a lot of chicken dust.... which I did. While chunks are indeed better, the dust is still useful because I was planning ahead. I used the dust in soups as a thickener so I wouldn't need flours or starches.

For me, this chicken is best boiled. Just adding boiling water and letting it sit, I felt it did not hydrate properly. It was still dry and chewy to me.

I will buy this again. It tasted like chicken which was a bonus after hiking for hours. I felt like I was eating FOOD.
