Needed another hawk and don't have time to forge one myself or justify the cost of having one made.
Had been less than impressed by some others in this price range, including well known brands people swear by and a couple that cost more than the CRKT.
I've liked most of the CRKT products I've owned and I liked the look of this one. For the price it was at least worth a shot.
Design:
I prefer the a hawk with some bulk. While admittedly adding weight in a pack or belt if that's how you carry it, a little weight helps with light chopping tasks. This one is just about right.
The hammer poll is adequate. If you need a bigger one consider a hatchet or a hammer.
The symmetrical eye is also a plus for me. The handles fit better and stay in place and new handles are slightly easier to make.
The edge is ok out of the box. It will work if you want to just put it to use but CRKT has left it up to the thevend user to put a finished edge on it that works for them.
One negative on the handle. The glossy finish needs to be sanded off. It's pretty but can be slick when wet.
Aesthetics:
It's a good looking hawk. Somewhat retro design with a modern feel to it. The handle looks better than most.
Not a huge fan of the finish but it's a tool and the finish is durable.
Overall:
It's great! Good for close up work like carving or food prep. Heavy enough for light firewood management and bushcrafting. Price is low enough you won't be afraid to use it and it's replaceable if lost or gifted.

I would give it zero stars if I could ... axe head wasn't even secure upon arrival, ... after reading a bunch of reviews about how this was typical , i tried to fashion the handle myself to maybe get a better fit . No luck ... it won't lock into position ....even after trying to tie some leather straps around it and using it on a big log in the backyard , thinking use of force might be able to lock it in place . Nope .... the actual handle is way to tapered and is just way to narrow ... sent an email to he company who said they would send me a new handle .. well I never received it so I'm writing this review ... really was excited about this Chogan but am regretting purchasing it and not just spending extra money for something that' actually works ..
Good sturdy and useful

My son wAnted to get this for my husband for his birthday. We looked at many online until we found this one. After reading the reviews we decided this was the one for us. We were not disappointed. It is well made sturdy and works like a charm.
Pros: has a nice heavy head that cuts through kindling with ease. The handle fits well in the hand and is comfortable. While the head is heavy, it can easily be thrown if you so choose. While my husband mostly uses this, I have frequently used this while chopping kindling. It is light enough thAt I am able to use it with ease.
Cons: when we received the package the wood at the top of the head was damaged. I had planned on returning it but my husband said not to, that this can happen anyway due to throwing it, and it doesn't effect the tomahawk. when we received the package the tomahawk was NOT packed properly. It was thrown into box with no padding and had punched a hole in the box. The box also had 1 strip of duck tape closing the box. That was it. I wAs very disappointed with that. When we ordered a tomahawk for our son it came tightly packed in the box.

Great for Backyards and Campsites

This is a great tomahawk. It provides a nice compromise between a typical hatchet and an axe. It will do everything a hatchet will do. Because the head is a little lighter, it doesn't pack quite as much punch, but the difference isn't great. Choking up on the handle gives the same control as found in a hatchet. The tomahawk also works very well as a small axe, the perfect thing for stripping branches off a downed tree or for similar jobs. The hammerhead is handy for pounding in tent stakes and similar things. I've seen videos on YouTube that describe how to cut crosshatching into the head to reduce slipping. It looks like a very useful modification, one I might do"¦eventually.
The only people using tomahawks tactically are members of the military. Because of the wooden handle and friction-fit head, you definitely would NOT want to carry this one into battle. However, if you want a backyard or campsite tool that can be used as a defensive weapon in a pinch, like if a hoodlum stumbles into your campsite or tries to get into your house, this tomahawk will certainly do the job. In addition to the edge, the hammerhead makes this tomahawk a small war hammer. Getting whacked with either end would not be a good thing.

Best hawk for the money imo

In my opinion the CRKT woods hawks are the best hawks for the money and for a novice wanting to customize a hawk for bushcraft. They have heavy and quality steel heads that are easy to strip and blue/patina. The handles are also a decent quality.
The one complaint is the heads are pressed onto the handle in such a way as to mushroom it slightly and ruin the friction fit. However, a little elbow grease and sand paper or dremel and that is easily fixed. If they weren't mushroomed in such a manner i may have went 5 stars.
I own the Chogan and the Nobo and they are both good hawks, depending on what you're looking for in a hawk.
