You can change the noise w/in a range w/ in each of the 3 types of noise. I had a severe concussion and noise is a big issue. I wish I had known about this years ago - I think it would have changed my quality of life. My husband needs "white noise" to sleep. The brown noise doesn't get inside my head and echo. It is compact, easy, light. It comes w/ a USB outlet box. It does not have a straight plug. Time options: 30/60/90 or continual. Only improvement would be ability to program, turn off at set time etc.

I have a very high pitched ringing that only a blue to violet sound can mask. This little machine, although very elegant, can not reach that level. Maybe if I really turn it up loud, but then it's not soothing it's just annoying. So if you need it to mask tinnitus, it will depend on what your ringing actually sounds like.
The machine is well made and worth the money if it works for you. I just took a star off because I wish it could be tuned to the violet spectrum.

I use this in my office cubicle to help provide background noise that dulls the conversations around me. I also use it when my tinnitus gets to be annoying.
Another use is to mask sounds or conversations in other areas of the house. This has let me nap when others are in the next room talking, and I have no idea they're in a conversation. Dulls outside noise such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers and string trimmers when the landscaping crews get going early in the morning.
