Great collar! Awesome colors!!!

I was looking for a collar like this that helps keep my dog from pulling. I saw this type used on the show Lucky Dog, but I couldn't find it on here. I finally found that this type of collar is called martingale collar. It does not choke your dog. It just tightens it a little when they start to pull. Its like the leashes that do the same thing except its much softer. Not a huge rope type leash that you need to make sure is on the right part of the dogs neck. This collar worked like a charm first time using it. The color is Awesome! I recommend it for all dogs even if they do not pull they can never back out of this collar. I do not use this collar as my dogs main collar however, just to make sure he doesn't get stuck somewhere with it on. I use a regular collar for inside or when not training. Other wise I use it for training inside and outside and for walking..
I love the colors in the blue collar

I love the colors in the blue collar, it's beautiful. It's very easy to get on and off my ridiculously fluffy, silky haired shepherd mix. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I'm constantly having to tighten it. I've never used a martingale collar before, so I honestly don't know if it's because of the smooth material this collar is made of or if it's because my pup is crazy active. It's never failed me on a walk, but when we're wrestling around the house, it tends to either slip off or he gets his mouth stuck in it (but like I said, he's a crazy active pup). I definitely recommend the martingale collars over the metal chain choker's I used to use. My dog responds much better to this one on walks.
Durable but possibly dangerous and deadly.

Durable but could be deadly. The smaller circular part of collar was caught in the bottom jaw of our pup and was choking her because she was wiggling to get it off her bottom jaw. When trying to close her mouth to loosen it around her neck it only became tighter. Had to cut it off. If we were not home, we probably would have come home to a choked out, dead pup.
The small is actually pretty large but still great

I bought this because I have a "cracked out" pug dachshund mix who I got three months ago who pulls like hell. She is SUPER anxious, I think she was abused and/or very poorly socialized or trained, because she will bark and lunge at men and sometimes women, is terrified of strollers, skateboards, cities, and even tree stumps. I think she was never walked. Anyway, I was using a harness on her which I would give a hard tug and constantly have to give verbal commands, but even then she would just go nuts and react anyway and not listen to me because the poor thing gets so over simulated and just totally crazed.
We are doing training and I've learned how to not encourage a fear response, don't wind up the leash, don't raise voice, don't punish for fear response. But we were still having trouble. I used a Thundershirt which REALLY helped, but when I would put her shirt on underneath the harness, it rubbed her little armpits red and a little raw. We tried just shirt and standard collar, but she still reacted pretty bad and would just pull but with her neck.
This martingale worked almost right away. I usually have to give a tug if she's just pulling, but she is VERY responsive to "heel" now and I'm glad I don't have to be super vigilant and non stop correcting, the collar does it for me. Walks were exhausting and stressful.
At first I thought they sent me a large, and I still think they might have, because even on it's tightest setting it will mostly easily slip over her head, but then I realized it needs to be able to slip on since there's no buckle. At first I was worried that she would slip out, but if there's any pulling at all it becomes too tight to slip out of, and if there's zero pulling then I don't need to worry about it slipping off since she's being good already.
Then yesterday I found the greatest benefit of all: she reacted on leash to the dobermans that live next door, we have a short metal fence. Usually she will just start lunging and barking, and then I have to turn and walk, her not listening to me. But when she lunged, she was choked out by the martingale to the degree that she was unable to let out an entire bark! It was actually pretty funny. For reference, she is a pug dachshund mix, 17lbs, stocky pug body, but long. She has a pretty thick pug neck with a big head with floppy ears. Anyway, it was such a strange noise it reminded me of her many snorting noises, but after two attempts at lunging and barking with this choking "cccckkkkhhh" non bark sound, she stopped trying to lunge and just whined at the other dogs!
Yay!
I am excited to combine her thundershirt with this collar so she can be calm and not have her little armpits rubbed raw. Best purchase!

This collar makes it a joy to walk my dog, Buddy!
DemosL✓ Verified Purchase•January 3, 2018
I recently adopted a Jack Russell Terrier (Buddy) that turned 6 years old last month. He's very well behaved except he pulls a lot on the leash especially if he sees trucks, cats and/or other dogs. It's very difficult to walk him, especially since I use a crutch because of hip arthritis. Until I got this collar, I was using a harness on Buddy. Putting this collar on my dog was like putting a hyperactive child on Ritalin. As soon as it pulls just a little, Buddy slows down or stops. What a difference! I didn't know this collar acted like a choke collar until I put it on Buddy. Unlike a choke collar, it's designed so it won't come off his head when there's slack.
