Great kit, but the rocks need multiple coats of paint

The quality of this kit is excellent and it has everything you need to do cute rock paintings. That said, in order for colors to really pop on the rocks, you need to paint over the black with white paint before using the colors, and it takes multiple coats for the rocks to look good. Younger children may not have the patience to wait for each coat to dry before doing another. It's one of those things that works best if you can do one coat, leave the rock to dry while you do something else, then come back and do another coat, etc. Also, base coats would go faster if you had a broader soft brush.

I do not recommend the Jar Melo Rock Painting kit. The so called "instruction booklet" gives no instructions and seems to be written by google translate. This seems odd for a company who claims to be based in the UK, an English speaking country. The rock included in the kit are either too smooth, or the paint is too thin, because it doesn't really cover the rocks, which makes it almost impossible to make our rocks look even remotely like the examples in the picture on the box. Here are pictures of our attempts to cover the rocks in paint.

OK. Maybe I should have done a little more research on rock painting after there were little to no instructions with this kit. I didn't know you were supposed to paint the rocks WHITE first. So they were OK when I finished.

ok so the deal was too good to pass. Paint was great. not dry and rocks were high quality rocks. ONLY reason I am giving 4 stars is because the rocks were so dark, it was hard to paint colors on them and have them show up. Or maybe better paint? idk.. but you know how kids are. they are impatient and don't want to wait for it to dry and paint over... because that's what you needed to do, other than that, fantastic product!

My daughter is huge into crafts right now. Over the summer a local town won a revitalization contest and to create buzz they started a painted rock program.
My daughter was so excited to find a rock so now she wants to paint her own and hide them for someone else to find.
