So I can't speak to its flavor or freshness. I was buying tuna and sardines as treats for some stray cats (turns out they aren't strays, they just like my yard better than my neighbors) and i discovered my chickens also LOVE fish. After doing some research into whether fish is safe for chickens, i began to make it a regular part of their diet, but it was getting very expensive. This canned chub is enjoyed as heartily as the other treats I was giving and comes at a lower price tag.

Cheapest source of Omega-3 and vitamin d

I bought this because it is a great source of omega 3 and compared to the supermarket prices for canned fish, the amount of fish here for the price is a considerable savings compared with buying canned tuna, canned sardines, and where I can find it, canned mackerel in my local grocery stores.

This is chub mackerel, a smaller fish, lower on the food chain than King Mackerel and other larger fish, so presumably mercury content should not be a problem.

This fish is very high in omega 3 fatty acids, so very healthy in that respect. Other fishes high in omega 3 are tuna, salmon, and sardines, to name a few.

This fish has a stronger taste than tuna, and it is milder than sardines. People who like sardines will probably like this too. People who hate sardines and other string oily fish probably won't like this either.

I mix this with a little avocado mayo, dill, garlic, and onion. It is a good substitute for tuna in sandwiches, and it is good on crackers. Low carb eaters may eat the spread straight, or put it on keto bread substitutes.

Some people who don't like fish buy this to feed to cats and dogs. If your cat or dog likes this, it is probably better for them than many commercial pet foods and may be more economical than some of them.

Unfortunately price jumped up $7 per case abruptly. Prior to that, it was a super bargain for a high quality product. Smells good, arrives with can stuffed with several whole small mackerels ( heads removed) and packed in natural juice. My dogs crazy about it. High quality protein. Also feed to feral cats. I am vegetarian, but used to eat canned mackerel, so know what high quality product looks, smells & feels like. Disappointed that price increased.
