A High Tech Alternative For Swiffer Wet Jet Mop Users
Tri Cao Nguyen✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 25, 2017
I should preface this review that my hard floor cleaning combo for a decade has been a vacuum cleaner and a Swiffer Wet Jet Mop. The idea is to pick up hair and debris with the vacuum and then to polish and clean the floor with the Swiffer. All the "less than optimal" 2 in 1 solutions (especially those devices that vacuum and mop) I have attempted to use have ended in disappointment; ultimately myself going back to this combo time and time again.

So I decided to give the Bissell Spinwave a try since I wanted something a little different and something with a little more muscle on hard floors than the Swiffer Wet Jet. Although I am happy with the results, there are few caveats about the device that I will address.

First the positives. The device has a heavy base so it naturally "rubs up" against the floor without the need of the user to put their weight into it. Anyone who uses a Swiffer for years knows what I'm talking about. Second, the fill tank of the device is as simple as the Swiffer Wet Jet. Just fill it with hot tap water, mix some Bissell solution (I'll get to this more later) and plug in the bottle and you're set. Third, the Spinwave couldn't be easier to use. It only has 2 buttons; spray and power on/off. If you need to attach the pads, they stick to the device via Velcro tabs on the bottom. It is eerily similar to the Swiffer Wet Jet; just a lot bigger and bulkier. Finally, the device is very lightweight once turned on. It actually glides across the floor with a little bit of liquid sprayed on the ground, and feels like it's polishing the floor rather than scrubbing against it. Considering how heavy the unit feels like when you lug it around, it almost appears to be hovering off the ground once power is applied.

Now onto the caveats and negatives. First, the overall frame of the Bissell makes it somewhat lean forward when standing. Doesn't sound like much, but it always looks as if it's going to tip over. If you decide to hang this on a wall, it's going to need a hook that's a bit longer to make sure the device catches on and doesn't fall off. Second, the spray function of the Bissell Spinwave is incredibly lackluster. It sounds and feels like the device struggles to push liquid out from the bottle onto the floor. This is quite annoying since the angle of handle will dictate whether or not solution will be able to push out of the bottle. In other words, you kinda have to move the handle forward or backward to a degree where the Bissel can spray liquid out. This is frustrating because the "pump" is so delicate it will have a hard time pushing out any solution that isn't simple tap water and the Bissell approved cleaner. Years of using a Swiffer Wet Jet led me to make a home made solution for pennies using diluted Fabuloso and water. When I poured this straight into the tank and gave it a try, the Spinwave struggled heavily to get any of the soapy solution out. When I emptied the tank and used the simple water + Bissell solution it worked fine; albeit still weakly and awkwardly. Those who want a frugal alternative to buying solution all the time will have to settle on a pre-mix of water and vinegar or citric acid. Don't try and use any other "soapy" substance, it's just not going to work that easily. My last minor gripe with the Spinwave is that pivoting handle may wear out over time since there is no "lock/release" button. You have to forcibly lower / push the handle into place when you're done and I can't imagine this being good for the joint after months / years of use.

Many might just want to ask "Does it clean better than the Swiffer Wet Jet?". Yes, it does. Considerably. But it's not a perfect replacement as noted above, and you should take the good with the bad. I'm happy with my purchase, but I feel like I made a slight upgrade than a major one.

Hope you found this information useful.
NOT WORTH A CENT

I'd like to leave it with no stars really. I was so excited for the arrival of this new aid. Thought it would make my life so much easier-taking the back staking work out of floor cleaning. It was horrible. Cool gadget but didn't do a darn thing but spin around. Directions say to keep holding trigger to dispense solution. The pads aren't nearly absorbent enough to sop up the liquid. Nonetheless I gave it a SPIN. Got through one area of the house pull off the pads expecting to see the lifted grime. Hardly anything. I scraped that I brought out my basic mop. Went over the same area & YUK. Yep there's my everyday grime. This Bissell was a complete waste.

I'd also caution anyone from purchasing from the vendor I used. Terrible. They wouldn't respond to my inquiries. Thanks to Amazon & their wonderful service, they kindly allowed me to return the product.
Doesn’t clean

Not sure why this device is getting such rave reviews. I've had it for a few months now and use it to "clean" my tile floors. Unfortunately all this machine does is swirl the lighter dirt around. It does not remove any sticky, stuck or ground in dirt. It's like a light sponge going over your floors. Dirt remains. Even after 10 or 12 passes. Ugh. Sure, it floats. It's easy to use but it does nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sheer waste of my time. Get a floor scrubber instead or a steam mop. Either one will do more.
Love it!

I am in love! We switched the majority of our flooring in our home to a high gloss porcelain last Fall and, while I adore my floors, I have two kids and three dogs and a reflective floor shows everything. To be honest, that is exactly why I got the porcelain - so I could know when it needed cleaning.

Anyway, mopping and vacuuming were a chore and a half and I had my eye on the Oreck Orbiter to take over the mopping duties. Renting and using the Oreck just once made me realize that my shoulder joints would give out before the Oreck did.

And then, along came Bissell with this lovely little mop. Light and pretty and oh, so easy to use, this is a dream come true for how I want my floors to look. The buffing pads spin just like the Oreck Orbiter but the vibration is no where near as heavy so that your arm doesn't feel like it is going to fall off by the time you are done. To be fair the Orbiter is a polisher and this is just a mop but still . . ..

I ordered the mop with the extra Mop pad kit and I am glad that I did since I went through all the pads by the time I was done with the house.

Observations : The scrubbing pad was not my favorite. It left swirl marks on my floor which was easily buffed out with a toe so I think it was just left over dirt. For a textured tile or for a non-glossy tile the scrubbing pad might be good but for a highly polished ceramic I found the soft pads to be best.

I used warm tap water and a splash of vinegar instead of the commercial cleaning fluid that came with the kit. I prefer not to get unknown chemicals all over the house with dogs and barefoot kids running around and licking things off the floor - the dogs, not the kids! I have been told that a slosh of hydrogen peroxide into the warm water can replace the vinegar and smell less . . . vinegary.

The mop does pull away a bit from you especially when it comes up against baseboards so it can be a bit tiring if you are hauling back on it a lot. Also, it does make a rather annoying beep when you press the button to spray the cleaning fluid. You can hear it in the video.

The mop head fits smoothly under standard cabinet kick spaces and the front of dishwashers. I was very impressed by that since some appliance designers seem to forget that bit. I hope the attached video helps you to see just how well the mop does this.

I did try out the vacuum combined with mop version of the spin wave and it felt a bit too heavy for my liking. I also like the ability to wash and sanitize the pads if needed. Did I mention dogs and children?

So, between the Bissell Spin Wave and the Bissell Air Ram I think all my other floor care tools can retire quietly to the garage.
Highly recommend this product

Just received and went to work on my wood looking tile that had such a build up with different floor cleans. Used Windex with vineager (can't use anything with ammonia because of my Chi's allergies). First used the scrubber pads with Windex then changed to polish pads and the tile came out streak free....yey!!! The machine is light weight but heavy enough to use effortlessly. I used to Swiffer but that's too much work plus after awhile left floor streaked. Highly recommend this product. 😉
