Order came quickly and everything is perfect.
Saved an Earthquake MC43 gas tiller that wouldn't run more than 30 seconds at a time.
Mark David ZahnMay 28, 2017
I've been struggling with my Earthquake MC43 gas garden tiller for the last couple seasons. I could only get it to run for 30-60 seconds at a time. I thought my tiller was done for, and any repairs would negate the cost of the unit. This season, I noticed that I was leaking gas considerably, so it drew me to look at what the real problem was - my gas lines from the carburetor were broken off, so any gas that was getting to the engine was only arriving my divine intervention. I also found that the lines were broken off inside the tank as well. I guess the original lines - about the size of aquarium air tubing - got brittle and broke off at the grommet. This is perhaps due to gas sitting in it over winter. So I researched fixes and found this kit on Amazon, and I thought I'd at least give this a shot rather than selling off my tiller for parts on Craigslist.

After removing the old lines from the carb and from the tank (required some creative fishing), and removing the old grommet, I went to work installing the new parts. Getting the hose through the grommet requires a little lubrication. I used good old-fashioned spit, and it worked fine. Getting the grommet into the tank required a little more coaxing - a little vasoline and a screwdriver for force. I basically split the two feet of gas line in two and added one of the fuel filters to one of the lines. I couldn't find great info online on which line to put on which nipple on the carb. On this model, you install the line with the fuel filter on the larger nipple with barbs. The plain line goes over the narrower, straight nipple. I tested this by placing the lines on and ensuring that once I hit the priming bulb, that the plain line was spitting out excess gas and not sucking in gas from the tank.

I like that this kit comes with two grommets and fuel filters. I could see possibly killing one of the grommets by accident trying to force it into the tank. I almost did with my screwdriver. I will probably change out my fuel filter next season since I have it. Also like that it comes with priming bulbs, though I hope to never have to use them. I also like that it comes with a spark plug - something not all the kits here on Amazon have. I didn't end up installing it because I had a little trouble trying to get the old one off, but I'll give it another go next season.

Overall, very satisfied with this kit. It literally brought my tiller back from the dead. Amazing what some routine maintenance can do!
