Despite the 3 star review, there is a lot to like about this soap. It is easy to load up a brush, lathers very well, makes a very nice rich lather. The scent is a very nice fresh scent, even though it is way too strong.

The main reason I am giving it 3 stars is because of the fragrance. Whatever is used for that, does not agree with me. When I used it, it was giving my skin some kind of rash or reaction to it so I cannot use this product on my face. I am sad too, b/c even though the scent is too strong I liked it. By the second pass I had to get it off of me b/c I was getting a rash. Sadly I cannot use this product, though if you are not allergic to the fragrance oils then it will make a great shaving soap for you. I am letting the soap air out with the lid off, maybe after a few weeks I can use it....will make some lather and see if I get the skin reaction again. If not I will update my review.

The price for the volume you receive is pretty fair, especially considering that it comes in a really nice tin. I don't want to throw it out though, so I am going to give it to someone else after I try letting it air out. It has sat overnight with the lid off now, and the whole room that it is in smells like barbershop! That is how strong this scent is. If your skin tolerates that though, unlike mine, I am sure you will be pleased with this soap.

"I started shaving my head during Michael Jordan era (90's). I've always
used the canned shaving cream and the trendy shaviest mcshaver of the day.
I read an article recently that mentioned how to get the closest shave.
Shower, oil your head, apply shaving soap with brush, shave, repeat if
necessary.
I didn't think a "soap" could match the lather of the canned cream.
Skeptical, I went on Amazon and started reading reviews. I found your
product and ordered. When it arrived, I smelled it: Great. Then I used
it.....
Oh my! The first time I used it, I used waaaay more than I should have. The
lather was luxurious, but more importantly it was long lasting. I never
realized that the canned shaving creams are not as creamy as they seem. The
condensed air makes them momentarily lathery but as the air escapes or as
the water hits it, you lose the lather.
Your product has allowed me to achieve 2 of the closest shaves I've had in
25 years. And my skin feels great after.

As long as you're selling, I'm buying.

Smells great. Easy to lather and stays nice and thick in a hot scuttle without dissipating. But it does not protect. I love tallow and I really wanted to like this. I shaved with it 4 times. Each time it gave me razor burn and an uncomfortable shave. And I even use coconut oil as pre-shave. Had to set it aside to sniff once in a while and went back to Cella. Cella fizzles out in the hot bowl by the time you're finished with your first pass, but you just add more soap and you're good to go. The tallow lather on this isn't as good as Cella's either. It's thick but in a different way. Definitely not the sublimely creamy, clay-like feeling you get from a Cella lather. When I finish shaving with Cella all I need is witch hazel, and really don't need that. Face feels perfect and hydrated with no burn. Not so here.

Makes a creamy lather with excellent lubricity. The sandalwood scent is completely unadulterated. My only complaint is that it doesn't wash cleanly from your razor; possibly this is the downside of the enhanced lubricating qualities. Update: I have to say that I am a bit disappointed in the diminishing scent of this product as I use it. Although I have always replaced the screw-on lid immediately after each use, the sandalwood scent has faded badly, with over half the contents left. Disappointing. You really have to put your nose in the tin to smell it at all. I also notice that the lingering scent on my brush, when dry, is nowhere nearly as pronounced as it was when the product was received. In contrast to the harder soap that I have previously used (Taylor of Bond Street), the Leather and Wood product also seems to be disappearing twice as fast - which makes it substantially more expensive to use. With these differences in mind, I am lowering my five star rating to four...

Just finished trying Lather & Wood Shaving Soap for the first time and I have to say it is GREAT! First appearance of the tin just looks like it smells good. The soap has that hand packed look when first opened, giving a nice feel of authenticity. The soap lathered up to a thick foam and maintained its consistency through the whole shave. When done, it washed cleanly away, leaving a nice masculine scent with no greasy residue. I will say that the name "barbershop" made me expect a talc or clubman type of smell. It is neither of those, having a very nice, masculine scent, with a subtle citrus note. As with taste, ones interpretation may be different from mine. I would suggest pairing it with a Lather & Wood Pre-Shave Oil. The combination of oil and soap left my skin perfectly balanced and made for a smoother shave. One thing that must be pointed out is the high level of customer service from this company. If all companies would learn from them the shopping world would be a better place!
