When I was little, my dad used to make all sorts of leather working projects.  We had handmade wallets, key wallet, key rings, quivers, change purses, purses, belts with our names embossed) and beautiful, beautiful patterns. You name it, my dad could make it.
It seems over time though, leather working has become a lost art.  I was looking for a simple starter kit that I would add to over time as I basically would be starting all over.
The Leather Sewing Tool Kit by Simpizia is a 17 piece kit that covers all of your starter needs.  All of the craft tools have wooden or steel handles making them incredibly sturdy.  There are two spacer tools, an adjustable stitching groover, burnishing, scratch and sewing awls, and a jerk needle.  The set also comes with beeswax for your thread, leather needles, scissors, finger cots, a thimble, a grinding polish tool, hairballs, and three colors of thread.  All the items can be stored in the small black storage bag.
The finger cots fit my fingers great but are a little small for my husband's large hands. They fit my teenage daughter comfortably.    I highly recommend using the finger cots and thimble because the tools are very sharp (as they need to be).   Just messing around with the scratching awl, I easily traced a pattern into a small piece of leather just as a test.  My daughter also started tracing a pattern that she will later make into some type of pouch or holder. The tools are easy for her to use.

Revisiting leather crafting from my childhood, This set of tools has about everything I could need as a beginner in sheath making for knives. I'm well pleased with it. Everything came as advertised. All in good condition. I have used several of the tools already. Currently working on crafting a new belt but the watch band came out amazing. Highly recommend this set.

There's so much in this set! I love all the tools! There's 3 different colored threads: Black, Burnt Umber, and Raw Siena colors.

I want to get my son into working with leather. He loves crafts and art. There just isn't a lot out there for young boys. Most craft/art sets are for girls. This is perfect for him. It has everything we need; except a scrap of leather, or belt he can try working on.

It's great just to have a set like this around the house.

Some of the tools are sharp (they have to be to pierce into leather), so just be careful when working with them!

I must say that this is a really sturdy kit. Some of the highlights are the fact that everything has either a wooden or steel handle. All wooden handles are smooth and they are certainly well balanced for a delicate work. In addition, you get to have a few different types of cutting apparatus for contouring the leather as you trim it.

One thing is that it would've been nice to have a pouch for all the tools; however, the box that came with it is OK to store the tools as they are. This is not a deal killer; it is just my pet peeve. Otherwise, definitely no complaints. No complaints, though if you are working with soft grade leather, you would not need every tool in the set. This set works better for thick hide leather. Overall a good start up set. All metal tips have good tensile strength, no wobbling or bending, held up well under pressure. I recommend it for starters. I hope the set's quality does not go down hill after my review and my 4 stars, along with other good reviews do not becomes a false-positive lure. As of August 2017, this product is of sound and good quality. [I can see how a product starts out good, gets a number of rave reviews which then becomes lures, and then the manufacturer does a bait and switch in quality for quantity of orders.]
