Sturdy and pretty

I ordered this gate for the nice aesthetic and specifically to fit a space that was short (needed to slide under a stair railing). After reading some of the other reviews, I was surprised at how robust this gate is, and was pleased with that since it was for the top of my steep staircase. I purchased a different unit for the bottom of the stairwell, which, while taller and larger overall, was much lighter weight, despite it being all metal. The only negative is that this unit is somewhat difficult to open with your non-dominant hand (like when you're holding your kid with the other arm). The reason this is an issue is because when approaching from one side, the mechanism is properly oriented so I can use my right, dominant hand to both push the unlock lever forward with my thumb and lift the entire gate handle with the rest of my hand in the single motion required to make it open. However, when approaching from the opposite side, I can't use my right hand because it's backwards. You either have to fudge it with your non-dominant hand or hope that you're not holding your kid and can use both hands. Aside from that minor issue, it's a great gate.

It looks like most of the one star reviews didn't read the directions on how to put it together or the packaging on the front saying there should be a gap between the where it latches. As you tighten it in the doorway, it closes and lines up. It's right there in the very easy to read instruction Manuel (not to mention on a sign when you first pull it out saying it is suppose to be that way) I recently moved and don't have doors in a loft style place. I wanted to keep my dog out of my closet but didn't want an eyesore. This gate is beautiful and perfect! Easy to instal and easy to follow instructions (even with a migraine) I will actually be getting another one for my bedroom for times I want to keep him out of there as well. Was very pleased with how pretty it looks once up (and very sturdy)

Love the style of this gate. I gave it four stars because sometimes it doesn't want to latch at the bottom so I have to be careful to double check it so my daughter can't open it. We have this gate at the bottom of our stairs and then at the top as well to make sure our daughter can't fall down our stairs. The gate at the bottom of the stairs doesn't have any issues, but the one at the top of our stairs doesn't latch well unless I use my foot to push it together at the bottom. When you get the gate it takes a little practice to open with one hand, but it was pretty easy to get the hang of. I tried the stair barrier before I bought this gate, but because of the way our stairs were designed we had to return it.

This gate is very nice. It is visually appealing. We have it at the bottom of our stairs, and it is very sturdy. The auto close gate function is great, but almost as important is that it will stay open if you open it all the way. We are easily able to open it one handed. The attractive pattern on the gate is not metal however. It is a rubbery material, but was a little disappointing. My son has not torn it up, but I can imagine that if someone were determined enough, they could probably rip off that material.

We first order the extra tall bronze summer infant gate which didn't work with our door lever handle so we ordered this one. Compared to the other one this isn't as strong and the pattern part of the gate is plastic which I hadn't realized. This is Still a good gate. Probably wouldn't have noticed those things if I hadn't had the other gate. It is the perfect height for our lever door knob so that is great. It Will keep our toddler safe and has a nice sophisticated look. I Gave it a 4 out of 5 stars just because our other gate was slightly more sturdy and nicer. However, I would definitely recommend this product. I feel it is great quality compared to other brands I have looked at in stores near me.
