It's a good idea and the plate gets cool to the touch BUT it's poorly designed. There is no insulation, it's just a plastic shell. So even if you put in a cold can to start the coolness dissipates. Some simple styrofoam or other insulating material would make a huge difference in how this device works. Also the door is just a hinge and closes, again a slight change by making it magnetic for a better seal would make a world of difference. Neither change would add expense, just different materials and a little more thought put into the product design.

I was skeptical when I ordered this but thought what the heck I'll try it. But it does not cool well at all. I didn't expect it to make warm soda cold. But I didn't expect it to let an ice cold can of soda get slightly above room temperature either. When you open the door there's a small silver plate at the bottom. That is the only so guaranteed part that gets "cool" and yes I quadruple checked to make sure I had the switch on cool and not warm. Long story short I used it 3 times and in the trash it went.

Pretty good for the price you pay. Doesn't make anything insanely cold but is a neat thing to have as a desk item. Cools a can an appropriate amount after a few hours, just wish it was a tad colder. Would recommend.
