Catch Can for Santa Fe 2.0 Turbo
Honest Rate-R✓ Verified Purchase•February 2, 2018
Very pleased with this mid-priced oil catch can and its fittings. But, I trashed the hose and bought a higher quality 3/8-inch gas line replacement. The main shortfall of most of these products is that they don't come with a mounting bracket that fits your vehicle. This is understandable, because vehicles have different open spaces in their engine compartments. In my case, I lucked out. I just had to make a simple mounting bar, See attached photos. It was then easy to attach this bar to an existing bolt on the engine-wall of my 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport . . 2.0 turbo engine. I watched a few YouTube (CATCH CAN) videos to figure out how to make the proper connections.
Hose is junk, smells like it shipped full of gasoline.

Everyone else's reviews are spot on. The thing smells like it shipped full of gasoline. The included hose is junk. The "baffle" portion of the can is kind of sad - it's just two metal plates with offset holes drilled in them. Doesn't seem like it would do much to condense oil vapor. I may install it as is and see if it collects a significant amount of oil. If not, I may add some steel wool or something to provide surface area for condensation of vapors.
Exceptional high quality billet aluminum CNC machined parts.... A few lousy parts including the hose....

I ordered three (3) of these and installed two on both of my cars; one on ny 2012 Prius "v" and another on my 2016 Nissan Versa Note.
The quality of the the billet T6061 aluminum components is exceptional. The cup is made from a multistage deep draw process like that used to make oxygen and scuba high pressure tanks. It's wall is thicker than it needs to be. The outside is still precision machined for a near perfect match to the valve body. Having been a machinist in manufacturing processes and an auto mechanic for many years, I can tell quality when I see it. At $36 delivered by Amazon Prime, these oil catch cans are an exceptional bargain.
Yes, the vinyl hose in junk. I replaced it with the recommended 3/8 inch gas line hose.
The fittings are also high quality CNC "ORB" or (o ring on boss) hydraulic quality fittings. The O rings supplied are undersized for the fittings supplied. I replaced the low quality undersized O rings with Viton ones. There was no O ring on the dipstick, while there is a channel to take one. I placed a correctly sized Viton O ring in the channel, so that it would seal correctly.
Instead of the worm drive band clamps, I used OEM quality 5/8 inch constant spring tension hose clamps for the entire installation. The Hillman brand was also purchased on Amazon.com. Since some of the component nipples on the hoses are plastic, worm drive band clamps exert perssure points on plastic that would eventually damage those fittings. That's why constant even tension spring clamps are suppied as OEM equipment,
The install on the Prius "v" was fitted with custom made stainless steel strip brackets fashioned to fit the OEM mount in the space left by the removal of the original filter box to install the HPS cold air intake that I purchased last year from Amazon.com.
On both installs, I repositioned the OEM PCV hose and connected it with the 5/8 clamps to hone nipples that I custom machine from black PEEK (polyeitheretherketone) plastic. Those who do not have machine tools can use commercially available hose nipples.
I would highly recommend this oil catch can to any user.
A friend of mine liked the photos of the Prius"v" install so much, that I sent him a prepared set with the correct brackets, hoses and clamps, that he installed it in 30 minutes.

This is a great alternative to pricier big name cans

This is a great alternative to pricier big name cans. I've had a big name brand on backorder for several months, so I purchased this one to hold me over. This one is so nice, I might cancel my big name order. This one cost 1/5 the price as the big name and essentially does the same thing. One mod I did was added some stainless steel wool to the filter to catch more oil.
The o-ring is the weak link...

Pros - Arrived quickly. Apears to be well made. Priced right considering the cost of a like can from ADD.
Cons - No o-ring on canister or supplied as advertised. 6mm hose supplied easley kinks at room temperature & is incompletely inappropriate for use ib a hot engine compartment.
