The camera is pretty good but the LEDs around it are not bright enough in dark areas.
D. L. Gibbons✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 17, 2016
The software works well and the camera takes clear images IN GOOD LIGHTING. However, I tried using the camera to look down between rafters over a finished basement room and had trouble. It seems the camera does not take good images in poor lighting. AND the LED lighting around the camera lens just does not do the job. I had the LEDs turned up as bright as they would go. I found I could shine a bright flashlight to supplement the LEDs and then got a good image. But the idea of this endoscope is to be able to squeeze it into tight and dark spots. Now I must plan on trying to light up any area I want to inspect. That means getting a light into the tight space along with the endoscope. Not good. I'll keep it but the prospect of it doing well on its own is slim.
It works, not perfect.

First of all it works on my machine, plugin the USB and run the app inside the dvd and the image show up instantly. No searching, no detecting, no installation.

Second, the cord is too soft to push far down the sewer line. I can only push about 6 ft. Maybe I should better to make it straight before push in or tie it to a snake and use the snake to push it down the line.

It need to have a stronger cord to perform well in sewer line. Maybe it could be used on inspecting other stuff in your house.

I bought it about night dollars, so I don't expect it to work really well, just curious about the condition of my sewer line. I know what I am going to expected.

If your drain is in really bad condition and need to identify the problem, you better hire plumbing company. Don't expect a night dollar camera would be as good as their camera which costs couple hundreds.

========UPDATE========
Tie the head with my snake, it can reach out about 20 ft down to my sewer line. Cannot see very far but at least it works. The video consumes tons of hard disk space.
It was "allright"

It worked, but not well.

I got this to pair with some fish tape/fish rod's to use in fishing cable through a crawlspace in the house. A few notes:
1. It seems you have to use the CD that came with it to view anything. It partially loaded on two Win7 PCs but I couldn't view in VLC. Attempting to view in VLC would cause the device to disconnect and reconnect endlessly.
2. It did work a little bit at first once I installed the ViewPlayCap software from the CD, but after a little bit of use the picture started to fuzz out tremendously. This made it unusable. I checked the camera head and found the camera sensor and all LED's had moved off to one side. The only way to correct this was to knock it up against something hard.
3. Picture quality was "allright". It definitely had a very short focus point.
4. The cord is floppy which really hurts the ability to run it in most situations that I could use it in. I thought attaching it to fish tape would help but the cable tangling negated that.
If it works with your configuration - it's worth it

2-7-15: Update: Success! I decided to try this on my laptop, which by the way also uses Windows 7. I decided to just plug it in and see what happens. My laptop automatically installed the driver and it worked. I used Nero at first just to see if it worked and it did. Then I installed the software that came on the disc provided with this camera and it worked as well. The adjustability of the light is very nice, a little touchy, but can be worked with. I would never really be using this camera with my desktop computer anyway so it's good that if it's going to work with one of them, it works with my laptop. As I stated before, buying anything for a computer is a risk because of the seemingly infinite configurations. At first I rated this pretty low but since it seems it might be more of an issue with my desktop configuration, I increased the rating stars. I also own a Milwaukee inspection camera that I spent about $200 on. It is about 3' long is all. Those are very nice but limited to the screen size they come with and length. Plus much more expensive. This being just over $17 is well worth it. The head where the camera is located is larger in diameter on this so it may be limited, but looks like it would fit in any pipe I would ever want to stick it down. The image quality of the camera seems sufficient. Overall I'm very happy with this camera. Because of the success today I placed this update of my review on top due to its positive nature, and the original below due to its negative nature:

2-5-15: Original post:
As with anything made in China, it's hit or miss. It comes in a nicely packaged box with everything spelled correctly. Good start. Open it up and it comes with the unit, directions, and a small disc. I read the directions first which are written in a way that it's obvious to tell they've been translated from a different language, but still understandable. One thing that seemed odd to me was in the directions it states, "XP system can watch video directly without install software, Vista or win 7 need use our software which in the CD". Usually it's been my experience that newer versions of Windows are less likely to need the disc. My experience is also that when you're buying anything for a computer there is a risk of things not being compatible, etc. Anyway, I have Windows 7, so on to the install. I put in the disc like the instructions state, no auto play but I find the AMCAP.EXE file to install. That works and installs the software which is pretty simple and the software appears simple to use. The problem seems to be the device is not recognized. There are no drivers on the disc and when I scan and try to find drivers for it, none are found on my computer, the disc, or the internet. So the device shows as "unknown" in my device manager. That may also be why my computer can't find a driver - it doesn't know what it's looking for. I'm sure the thing would work if I could find drivers for it. I'm not having any luck finding any kind of support or a way to contact the seller or manufacturer. Sometimes products have a website where drivers can be downloaded. I haven't found this yet if it exists.

The LED light does work but that appears to be controlled simply by the power coming through the USB cord. Then there is a control on the plug to adjust the light's brightness and on/off. I guess if I wanted to I could use this as a flashlight (sarcasm).

Before attempting to return it I would like to invest a little more time and try to come up with a solution, perhaps contact the seller (as/if time permits). I don't really want to return it because it seems to me that it might just need a simple fix if possible. Maybe it's not compatible. Fortunately I bought this because I thought it could come in handy sometime and not because I need it. I'm reviewing this with 1 star because it should work right out of the box. Drivers and everything should be included. That's what I would expect. I shouldn't have to do all this trouble shooting to make it work. Other buyers may have had better luck - good for them, but even if I do get this working properly I may still only bump it up a star or two. I will update if I do resolve the issue, or if I have trouble returning if need be.
Saved me a huge amount of money looking for wiring behind walls
Michael BJanuary 23, 2015
For examining behind walls, this is basic but very handy, and a good value for the price. The prior owners of my home had spliced in a run of 14 gauge wire onto one of the 20 amp kitchen circuits (which is hazardous and a code violation, because the wire can melt before the breaker will trip), and I couldn't find the other end of the wire, even using a tone generator (though it did point me in the right vicinity). I was about to start tearing up the drywall to look for it, but decided to use this to probe instead. Five minutes later, I had located the other end, spliced directly behind a built-in microwave (two more code violations - wiring must be inside of a junction box, and splices must be accessible).

Knowing this, I was able to get the microwave down, find the splices, and point their exact location to an electrician, who was able to pull out the old wire and run some #12 from one of the outlet boxes. If the electrician had to locate the splices himself, the service call would have likely taken all day and cost over $1000 more. Assuming that we ever found it at all, because no tone generator was going to reveal a location behind a bulky microwave.

This is a basic camera. The resolution's not great, you need a computer to view it, and the head requires around a 1/2" hole to clear. But you're not paying much for it, and it really is a lifesaver on the occasions when you do need to use it.

I've also had great success locating and yanking out some dead coax cable left over from the same owners' satellite service. I suspect it would do equally well for plumbing, hvac, and possibly endoscopies :)
