These are easy to use and they work pretty well! I bought two, one for each boy, ages 4 and 7. They are good but buzz if the kids are within 5 feet of each other, which is probably good because it keeps a little distance between siblings. I have a slightly upgraded one so I can read depth and metal type which these do not do.Main complaint is the tightening ring is cheap plastic and snapped on both of ours from adjusting them, now we have resorted to duct-tape... bummer.That aside these are pretty darn good as pin-pointer, getting way closer locations than my detector. Paired with an adult one these are great for the kiddos. Without an adult one... good luck, but they do work well.Wish they had a spare ring though or metal for the part that cracked on both...
Best for kids not beginners.

Bought this for Christmas for my 5-year old son. He absolutely loves exploring and I thought this would be great for treasure hunting. Size is great for him. Lightweight and easy to carry. It is hit or miss when it comes to picking up metals and coins. We hid some coins on top of the ground and swiped the detector over it and it did not beep or pick them up. Battery was fully charged. So that was a little disappointing.

This product doesn't work well enough to use. It squawks and even though it has a knob to control the squawk, it does not register most metal found in the ground even if it's only a half inch down in sand. It squawks when nothing is there to register and doesn't squawk when something is there.
Must be a great gift.

Bought this for my 5-year-old daughter. This weekend I will see how she likes it. The price was good and it seems to detect well. I have used it for a while just to test its operation and it detects well enough and the design seems pretty good for a detector in this low of a price range. I will update after this weekend, I buried $3.00 worth of pocket change in the backyard so she really gets to test it out!
