High hopes...but nopes. IT FRIED ALL MY DRIVES.

So far this get 1 star. I'd give it 0 if I could. And here's the horror story of why:

It fried all 3 WD NAS "Red" 3TB drives I put in it....and itself.

I installed the cage. It's not rockets science. By all accounts, this should have been an uneventful installation of nice-to-have hot swapability for a NAS I built. Cage goes in, SATA and power hooked up, drives loaded, power up computers.....POP! and then the famed stench of fried electronics.

I removed everything and found a particular component blew and took everything out.

Fortunately, Amazon is probably the best in the game at taking care of you. They immediately shipped me replacement drives and cage. The blown stuff is on it's way back. But until I can trust this cage and see it was not a fluke event....it gets one star.
Resold junk.

Bought 2 units. Neither one fits correctly, the screw holes don't line up with either of my cases. These are poorly designed, and poorly made with cheap materials, mostly plastic. Definitely not worth $50.

Other issues were that there was damage to both units and obvious signs of previous use like scratches and open packaging. One of the wires connecting the LEDs was partially cut, and the bezel on one unit only had 2 of 4 screws in it. Will not buy from this seller or this brand again.
Works fine for my misuse.

Technically you're supposed to put this in a rosewill rackmount server chassis, but it is serving me well just sitting on the floor with a raspberry pi and home-rebuilt PSU sitting on it. Never rebuild your own PSU, I electrocuted myself in the act, just go to a thrift store and buy an old computer for parts.
Great Hard Drive Cage

After reading several reviews about cages I was looking for a solution to add some hot swap to my very old CM Stacker case I came across the Rosewill and I was quite surprised at how good this device is. The plastic is a little higher impacted plastic so I would hope that the heat from the hard drives won't melt anything as I will be leaving this on 24/7. It installed cleaned but I had to install the SATA cables in first including the 4 pin power on each cage. Access to the cable side of the cage was being blocked by the fan and the no access back plate of the CM Stacker case required me to add the cables first including the power as well. Once every thing was installed the drives lit up and my existing RAID came up without any problems. I'm using an older HighPoint 2320 card which works fine with the cage. If your looking for an inexpensive cage this defiantly should be on your list.
Great for converting 5.25" drive bays into HD storage

I used this in my windows server 2012 build and I put 3 WD Reds in it, 1 parity drive and 2 storage drives. I also use an SSD Journaling drive to enhance my write speeds, but that's not used in this piece of equipment. The lights indicate when a drive is in use, and it gives you quick access to the drives. I don't use optical drives either so it was a great piece of equipment to fill those 5.25" bays on the front of my case. Sort of cheap feeling, but definitely cheap in price. No regrets and I would purchase this again.
